Stephen King info stuff
What made me check into this was a movie I taped off of cinemax the other night that was based on his book Graveyard Shift. I finally got around to watching the rest of the movie last night and I was quite disappointed. I agree with what the review of the movie had to say about it in the link I will be submitting here. I never read the book, I might have to ask my older sis if she has. I think that the movie might have had some potential but it seemed to have been rushed and just the idea of a humanoid creature that looked between a rat and a bat just had me rolling in laughter, it was so cheesy *no pun intended* but some parts when it attacked ppl was pretty gross.
After looking at this link, I had no clue that he had that many movies based off his books or short stories. So far from what I can recall, my favorites are still:
Link to list of works
- Maximum Overdrive (kickass soundtrack too ^_~)
- Stand By Me
- The Lawnmower Man (Jeff Fahey was fucking HOT in that movie when he went shirtless)
- Pet Sematary 1 & 2 (kinda iffy on #1 though)
- The Rage: Carrie 2 was pretty decent
- Silver Bullet was okay, not the greatest for its time but it was watchable.
- and as much as I hate to say it Children of the Corn (fuck! I didn't know they did that many movies with that title) This is one movie that when my sisters and I saw this back in early '80's after it came out, that we were so scared to walk home from the farm in the cornfields. Talk about being paranoid when you heard a little noise, it was worse when it was dark out.
but of course there were quite a few "books turned movie" that I wasn't very pleased with that I have read. For example:
- IT
- The Stand
Both were really good books (The Stand was better than IT though) and it had so much depth in the books that the movies just can't capture. Sometimes they end up keeping the stupid shit for the movie and leave the good parts out that were in the book that could've made the movie better.
- The Langoliers was better as a short story from the book it came from. The movie did kinda give me the visual as to what the funky teeth creatures were but that too was kinda cheesy.
- Hearts in Atlantis. I seen the movie before I ever picked up the book (which I still need to read one of these days). The movie just didn't make any sense to me, perhaps the book explains more.
- Rose Red. I saw the miniseries but haven't read the book yet. That was one fucked up miniseries, it was confusing me from time to time.
last but not least that I might be afraid of is:
Dreamcatcher thats coming out on the 21st of this month. The book was different, parts dragged on here and there but I'm scared to see how they are going to adapt this into a movie. One thing though I can't wait to see is the disgusting weasel like alien creature that likes to kill off ppl.
Upcoming movies that I was so shocked but yet a bit anxious to see how its going to work is:
- Eyes of the Dragon (great book) and it seems like they might animate this one O__O. Goes to show how dumb I am, I had no clue it was a side piece from the Dark Tower series (which is awsome too)
- The Talisman. (a very creative background and a good book). If they decide to pick this one up, I'm wondering how they will work this out. The books is pretty thick and you'd have to either make this a miniseries or quite a few parter like how Harry Potter or LOTR is.
- Desperation. Funny cause I was just thinking how I would like to see them try to base a movie on it.
- The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon I think was a slow, boring, and retarded book. Not looking forward to the movie.
- The Mist. *bouncebounce* That short story is so freaky, I'm surprised that someone wanted to make a movie off of it.
The ones lined up that kinda makes me roll my eyes but perhaps it needs to be done. A remake of Carrie and Salem's Lot. 1st Carrie was a bit creepy during its time. Salem's Lot needs ALOT of potential done to it. The original movie made me laugh, the vampire they used or created was so fake and he was blue O__O.
Looking at this movie list, I came across a title that shocked me. The Mangler I had no clue it was a work done by King. I recall my friend back in the army rented it when she and her bf came over and stayed the night at our place. I think we only watched the beginning before we turned it off (I think we were getting sleepy). But from what I could recall of what I saw of it, it was pretty gross, I actually want to go and rent it again. Perhaps even reading the book.
I heard the Green Mile and Shawshank was good (movie wise I believe). Never seen both and never read both.
Bookwise, I'm soooo anxious whenever Stephen will release some new books for the Gunslinger/Dark Tower series. As my older sis said and I agree, before he can retire or die, he HAS to get that completed. For all we know, he does have it all done, just needs to have everything typed up. King did want to make sure that he gets the Dark Tower series completed cause he too is in love with the idea of it.
And I'm sure I bored ppl with this entry but I can't help babbling like a nerd, I've always been a fan.
