It's not often that one would look forward to having a root canal done. I've been waiting for this bitch since I started getting slight pain in the tooth I just had worked on yesterday since Sept.
Now the kicker of it all was that when I went in for my check-up in regards to the tooth 3 weeks ago, the chick that worked on it before (meaning putting on the perm. crown), was a bit skeptical about it as if god forbid that I'd have problems with it so soon. She knew it was getting pretty sensitive to me when she did all tests on it compared to the others and I guess nothing was showing on the x-rays that it was bothering me. I was about to say "bitch, its my tooth, I should know what bothers me and what doesn't." ADD to the fact I couldn't even CHEW my damn food on the left side of my mouth or drink anything cold w/out it bothering me right away.
So I finally had part of the root canal yesterday. I reallyreallyREALLY wished that she would've done it the first time back when she put the crown on. It would've saved US money and me the pain in the long run. The other dentist who did my other root canal on the upper right back tooth, did the canal regardless cause she was smart enough on how to go about it. As she said, to save me NOT being in pain later and having to go through the grueling task of trying to get the perm. crown off.
This chick wasn't stingy on the novocaine thank god cause in no time flat I was numb. Once they started drilling in order to pry the crown off, she either hit the nerve or just the tooth itself was irritated to where I could start feeling the pain it was giving off. When she paused in her work to see how I was doing, I was like "I can feel it just a little, but I can withstand the pain." She's like "OH NO, we're going to numb that area up even more" and made sure to numb it around the tooth. I think it was when they finally got the crown off, she THEN realized just how I wasn't talking smack about how much that tooth was bothering me. The way it sounds, what causes the pain when you get a root canal is the nerve is dying. The reason why my other canal work didn't hurt was that I had a decent nerve before it had the chance to die off. Once she started drilling I guess to get the nerve out of the tooth, that area of the tooth was bleeding like a stuck pig. (I couldn't tell since they were sucking it up as they were going along w/ the procedure) Another reason they can tell that the nerve was dying/bad, is that once they get in that spot and it starts to bleed a good bit.
This time it didn't take as long either to get the fitting of my temp. crown to fit right since I apparently have a large bite and its harder for them to work with. I have two more appointments to go for this. Not sure what the one I have to go on Mon is for but I know the last appt is when my perm. crown arrives.
She gave me a prescription for Tylenol 3 and I wasn't going to worry about getting it filled cause I could deal with what little pain I have but I changed my mind after the numbness wore off. This bitch throbs more than when I had the other work done.
Then later in the day, I had a doc's appt. Since its been since last April that I had any lab work done, I had to have it checked again. I mean I don't mind cause knowing how fucked up my genetics are, I want to know if something shows up in my system, its just that I'm not too fond of getting blood taken. As long as they know what they are doing when it comes to jabbing my vein to where I can't feel it and I close my eyes, I'm good to go. They took 4 tubes compared to the 7 tubes they had to take from me when I had strep & mono back when I was a teenager. When the nurse was getting my info again about family history, I bet they think too "geez you are one unlucky person", between diabetes, cancer, and heart problems. Though now that I think about it, I forgot to tell them about Parkinson's disease since my dad's mom is the only one in the family that came down with it.
NOTE TO SELF: call doc's office in the morning and inform them of that.
