Gungrave Overdose!!

*squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!* I'm soooo happy that AonE somehow was able to sub or get a hold of Gungrave Overdose movie clips that came from the game that is now up on BT for download. The game itself is slated for release next month for PS2. *bouncebounce* So I got the chance to watch it and even while writing this, I'm so excited, its just so weird to FINALLY see GGOD like this without having to even go through the game. (though I will be buying it, oh yes, it shall be mine preciousssssssssssss). The graphics are just....WOW! Just amazing, even better than the first Gungrave. I really like the new characters RB (Rocket Billy Redcadillac) who kinda has a tiny look of Vash, also was a musician in his past life (hence why his weapon is a really bad ass guitar that does alot of things) and Jyuji Kabane the blind swordsman. They weren't kidding when they said about RB being a ghost, so I wonder cause of him being like that, can he take any damage to his form when he fights in the game? I mean, when he went to grab Mika's arm, his hand went through her and when Grave shot at him, his bullet went through as well.

There are spoilers inside the cut but they are marked if you don't want to read them.

The story that goes on is pretty good, between what happens to Grave (which I had no clue that he could actually bleed for a dead guy), as well as Mika and Spike's situations. The music I found to be funny, only cause they have a mix of all three cds: from Gungrave game OST, (anime osts) uno Righthead and Lefthead but they also added some new songs too.

Again, I can't help but feel pity towards poor Bunji, he still harbored alot of deep feelings of wanting to kill Grave to thinking about their past when they worked together. But the question on my mind is, HOW did he survive the last game?? Did someone revive him or was he just a bit strong to really kill off for good in the 1st one?? I'm also glad that they kept to the likeness of Maria's anime form instead of the 1st game. The confrontation between Grave and Sherry was pretty cool before it cuts off when they fight. If she only KNEW the real truth about why Grave did what he did to her father and her loved one aka Harry, she would've understood. But if she did understand why he did it, then you wouldn't have a storyline or a new villain. Which is still kinda weird to think that Sherry would be like this. (since after all, she was never in the 1st GG game)

Seems like out of the characters you have to fight, I think that Fangorum is going to be a BITCH to take down. Sure it shows it when Grave does his super cool move to take "it" down, but I want to see just how hard he is going to be. F's weapon is pretty damn powerful if it knocked Grave on his ass in the early beginning. Its funny though when Fangorum is defeated, he does that slumped over pose like Wolfwood did in Trigun during his demise. Fangorum has a cross punisher like weapon that you can see here. He's actually ALOT bigger than what that fanart shows and he's ubber creepy. Art is by the Japanese artist Trash R.

SPOILERS of sorts!!!!!!
I think I saw some japanese GG art or something that made me think that Mika was the one to supply Grave with her own blood. And what do ya know! Its true!

Well at least my two assumptions of where Spike came from were wrong. Don't worry, I'm not going to tell you who he is or where he came from unless you really want to know. And I'm SUPER UBBER IRKED (well okay, not that mad but still in a bit of shock) at the near ending!!! How could you Yasuhiro Nightow??!! *shakes fist*

Also regarding Mika, it was kinda freaky as to what was happening to her but I will tell you my theory on what happened on how her body started to transform into an Orc. When Fangorum attacked them in the truck and Mika was hurt, Fangorum didn't bother with Spike at all (for various reasons of course). I can't remember who it was that saw what was happening, either Rb or Jyuji. Spike must've laid Mika's injured body on the table. Then you see him walking back to where she was with a needle like object in his hand and you see him inject her with something. The scene fades and then jumps to where they must've found out about who Spike was and by that time, Mika was already starting to transform (half of her face). But since we didn't know Spike's origins till the near end, it would now make sense on what Spike might have done to Mika, only cause he was not the one controlling himself. That's just a guess since after all, alot of stuff is not covered in the game with all that is going on and such. Though I find it very heartwarming when Grave was holding her in his arms, saying "Please live, Mika."

Nightow creates great characters BUT he really needs to do a manga with Gungrave and Gungrave OD. I would like to know the background to RB and Jyuji, who they were, how they were killed, etc. It also would seem that Garino knows Jyuji from the past but how???!!!*doh!*END of SPOILERS!!

The near ending, of course when you defeat the boss like you did with Harry in the 1st game, was so hella cool to have Jyuji, RB, and Grave lined up and taking aim. Its amazing at how HUGE their weapons turned into. You'll see that in the screencaps near the end. RB was shirtless too, just too bad it wasn't a clearer shot of him though. *swoons!*

Well, what characters were left from the 1st game anyways, they kept the same voices for the 2nd. Big shocker here! Grave actually talks, but only once and that was when he was speaking to Mika. I was surprised that they got Seki Tomokazu to actually do that small voice role. I also found it cute, that Yasuhiro Nightow made a character of himself in the game called Nightow Angel. (it says so in the credits). From that little weird odd creature you see in the GG books or on the GG site, I believe that is his little "mascot" of himself. For the game, I do believe that creature looking thing in that big light bulb Spike is holding is the Nightow Angel (has the same wing and odd shape, pic #8)

The more I watch it, the more I've gotten a better grasp on RB and Jyuji than just going by the pics I've seen on Japanese sites. There are some that just has oodles of Jyuji pics but after seeing his character, I can see why. I really like these two new characters and their personalities.

Jyuji is the "loner, grumpy" type who tries to deny things and doesn't seem to do well with ppl's feelings. Since apparently he said some hurtful/harsh words to Mika and didn't really realize he did it till RB said something. You can tell he harbors some hidden feelings for her or he wouldn't have said nor done the things to her/for her. He just needs to not have that cocky attitude when approaching her but I guess someone has to be "rough" with her since Grave barely talks and she has no one else to really make her snap out of doing stupid stuff.

Part of their conversation was:

RB: You really need to be kind to a grieving lady. All men have to do something about it. There is no exception.

J: Don't argue too hard with me. You're so damn annoying

RB: You should be a little more honest. Even if its only 1% more.

J: feh, Like I'd care about that female brat.

I must say though, for Mika, Grave, and Spike only meeting J and RB for the first time, they became very good allies and not only that, both J and RB are protective of Mika. This guy has got some skills/senses for a blind dude too! Though this is odd, if he is blind, how did he know about that bruise on Mika's arm? (pic #24)There seemed to have been something said before that perhaps wasn't shown with this, hopefully it will show that in the game. Truthfully, I'm surprised there isn't much JxMika art. I already feel plotbunnies nibbling lightly at my ankles for these two, though not really a relationship thing, just some introspective type works.

RB is the ladies man. Knows how women are regarding feelings and seems to just fall for the opposite sex regardless if they are young brats or not, as Jyuji has told him so. The scene in pics #27-28. I couldn't figure it out who was talking but after watching it again, it was Jyuji referring to how RB is. RB seems to be friendly to those that he can be comfortable around. I have to laugh at how he and Jyuji interact with one another, but then again, they also travel together too so it gives RB all the time in the world to get on J's nerves, especially for a ghost. *lol* Also, does ANYONE know who voices Jiraiya on Naruto? Reason being, RB's voice sounds very similar to his. They do have the VA's names in the ending credits but I'd like to know first (which I'm probably wrong since Spike also sounded like Naruto but it wasn't the same person's voice).

Thats enough fangirling for the time being, till next month *lol*

And of course, you didn't think I wouldn't have screencaps handy now did ya!? *snerks* I was pretty pleased with the action clip I snapped at the right moment between the fight with Grave and Bunji. And the close shot of Bunji's face made me go "whoa!"

Screencaps Also keep in mind, some of these will have spoilers in them too.

I can only hope that I can burn this vid to disc since it was a pretty big file.

For those that would like to see samples of the game in action, go here and click on the tab for Videos. There are at least 5 pages you can view and download the action.

Yay! When I saw [livejournal.com profile] wardove's post I was so excited. I also thought about you. Know you finally know Spike Hubie's secret. It wasn't exactly what you expected but it was still a little too close for comfort to me. I was hoping they would avoid that angle all together. I like his character though. It was cool seeing Mika acting almost like a big sister.

Man! I did not know how much better looking this game would be. I thought the first one had great graphics but OD is... Wow! I love all of the character designs. Grave's new outfit is so sharp and I'm digging the darker hair. The new characters are awesome. I was worried that they would be bland compared to Grave and Mika but they have tons of personality.

I have to laugh at how he and Jyuji interact with one another, but then again, they also travel together too so it gives RB all the time in the world to get on J's nerves, especially for a ghost. *lol*

*LMAO* Yeah, the way RB and Jyuji play off of each other is great. So funny. I can just imagine the fanfics now.

It's nice to see that Grave and Mika are not alone in their battle this time around. I did not think that a guitar would be as cool a weapon as it turned out to be. And did Grave's already badass coffin get even more awesome!? I think of all the weapons, Jyuji's sword/guns are my favorite.

Nightow made RB and Jyuji too cool though because now I want to know more about them! A Gungrave OD manga would be nice if only to provide more background information on those two.

Mika has really matured. I find her to be a really great female character because she's such a strong person. She was willing to die to save Grave in order to complete their mission. I'm glad the guys reprimanded Jyuji about his attitude towards her. And she's driving Dr. T's truck... how cool is that?

I already feel plotbunnies nibbling lightly at my ankles for these two, though not really a relationship thing, just some introspective type works.
That would be something interesting to read. You can tell that Jyuji cares about her/her safety. He's just such a surly bastard about it *lol*.

I know what you mean about Bunji. That guy always tugs at my heartstrings. His final words to Grave this time around almost had me going WAAAHHHH!

The bad guys were very interesting. *LMAO* I love Fangorum. His demented gibberish is the best. Whatever he's talking about he's really feeling it!

Fangorum: Garrravay! Dabubabu! *more random babbling*
Grave (thinking): Yeah, whatever.

Thanks for making all of those fantastic screencaps!

Well my other theory about who Spike might have been was a character created from the Trigun times (perhaps Vash and Meryl's kid? *lol* hey ya never know, Spike has the blond hair, Vash's color eyes, and the smarts) Yeah I liked the realtionship between Mika and Spike *cries* Though I wonder how she met him. *pulls hair out*

The new characters are awesome. I was worried that they would be bland compared to Grave and Mika but they have tons of personality.

No doubt! I was so pleased with the graphics with this game, I think that they decided to up the improvement but thank god not in the style that I don't like (which would be kinda hard to explain). Yeah I wasn't sure either how I was going to react on seeing how the new characters were, good for them to make them kickass.

Oh shit! Grave's coffin is soooo killer!! I like how it has that skeletal arm that goes with the skull. I was watching it again tonight at work since I have a bigger screen than at home and picked up on a few more things. When Grave is fighting Fangorum, watch what his casket does right before he kills Fang. It looks like it has extentions that pop out (kinda like legs) and his guns are like HUGE. I paused it so I could see what it all was but it kinda goes fast so you have to pause it at the right moment. That would explain why everyone's weapons were so big at the end with Garino. (though I have no clue how RB's guitar gets that attachment to it).

I can't quite remember where I read it but I heard that Jyuji's character isn't very strong. When he fights, he has to do alot of upclose battles in order to do any damage to the bad guys, I guess cause he's got small guns and his blades are only a certain length. But either way, its still neat, though I wonder what is with the fire on his back.

YES! Nightow owes ALOT of explaining to these characters. You can't just create something and just let it go like that. I'm really glad they made Mika into a strong female, its definitely needed for GG, you can't have a whining crying female who ppl have to constantly protect. With Mika, she's a big girl (even when she was younger too) who can fight with what she can. I had to laugh at her statement to Grave that she's now 17, uh huh, what are you trying to imply there Mika? ^_~ Grave just accepts it and nods.

Another thing regarding Jyuji and Mika is that at the end, HE'S the one to volunteer on telling her that anytime they need them, to just call. I never would've expected him to be the one to say that, RB yes, but not Jyuji.

Yes, beloved Bunji, I think he does that on purpose so we fans will fall for him more *lol*

Fangorum: Garrravay! Dabubabu! *more random babbling*
Grave (thinking): Yeah, whatever.

*falls into fits of giggles* Thats so true! When they first showed him and he spoke, I'm like WTF! and started laughing.

No prob! I couldn't resist NOT making the caps. I'm going to make another comment on other things I picked up since LJ only allows you so many words when you reply back.

Spike does look like he could be Vash and Meryl's kid. Awww. His character design was so adorable.

It looks like it has extentions that pop out (kinda like legs) and his guns are like HUGE. I paused it so I could see what it all was but it kinda goes fast so you have to pause it at the right moment.

That was definitely a Holy Shit moment because that was so unexpected. Very cool.

I had to laugh at her statement to Grave that she's now 17, uh huh, what are you trying to imply there Mika? ^_~ Grave just accepts it and nods.

*LOL* That was a really cute part. I completely agree with you that she's telling him *in sing-song voice* she's a big girl now. It was great how Grave was still protective of Mika but didn't hover so closely.

Oh yeah! Jyuji surprised me when he volunteered his and RB's services. That does seem more like RB's style. Well... well. This coming from the same guy that said, "Like I'd care about a female brat."

Even though he might not be that strong, Jyuji looks like he'll be a fun character to play. I wonder what's up with the fire on his back also. Looks badass though. Maybe that's all Nightow was going for. I wonder if it'll figure into the gameplay?

Yes, beloved Bunji, I think he does that on purpose so we fans will fall for him more *lol*

That's right! Stop manipulating our emotions, Nightow! Now if he shows up in a third Gungrave game (other than a flashback) I think I'll go crazy. Let the man get some peace. *LOL*

Fangorum is the best! Heheheh. Dabubabu! I don't think I've ever seen such scary comic relief in my life.

The scene with Garino and his father, when he pretty much fucked his father over putting that needle into him. Almost reminds you of Harry and Big D ya know? Harry finally got so far up the ladder that all he had to do was get rid of the main obstical from going any farther. Who knows, maybe thats what Harry did to Big D in the 1st GG game, injected him with the Seed instead of shooting him like the anime. Would make more sense how Big D got that way.

It irks me on how Sherry and the others are constantly blaming Grave for killing...well...THE BAD GUYS! HELLO!!?? You guys are BAD, you cause harm to others!!! Would make sense for Grave to go after BAD guys right? Yean I know I'm overreacting but still. Sherry is accusing him of killing so many yet she doesn't understand anything. I mean she had to know that the Orcs are up to no good and they kill w/out thinking twice!! Grave actually does have some thought in his dead skull.

I was wondering what Spike had in his hand before he injected Mika. I found out cause it shows it upclose when he's walking to where she's laying. In the beginning, you see Mika in front of Maria's grave and she's holding a syringe like device (and here I thought at first it was a grave chisler to make words into the grave stone *lol*) Here it was the Seed, how Mika came across it is a mystery too. Perhaps that was also what was in the light bulb, one of the Seeds they were able to get a hold of (perhaps what Mika had in her hand).

Wasn't that funky how that rain of blood made Grave glow? I want to say that it kinda looked like he absobred it into his body but that would be weird (then again so is the GG story). Its like right after that, it was ASS KICKING TIME!

One last thing. At the very end of the credits, you see part of the front of Jyuji walking. You see these round things around his neck. He's wearing Spike's extra set of goggles that Spike would keep around his neck. I thought that was very sweet of Jyuji to do that as a momento, something else that you'd never think J of doing. He's a softy deep down inside *lol*

Ooh you made a great point I forgot to address:
Though this is odd, if he is blind, how did he know about that bruise on Mika's arm? (pic #24)There seemed to have been something said before that perhaps wasn't shown with this, hopefully it will show that in the game.

Yeah, I'm wondering the same thing. I hope that the gameplay will add some more details to the story.

Garino and his father is very similar to Harry and Big Daddy. That was pretty cool how they have that parallel between the games. Someone so ambitious that they will kill anyone to get what they want. You make a good point, the way Garino did his father sheds light on what Harry did to Big D.

Sherry's part in the game almost seemed to be an afterthought. I thought she would have a MUCH bigger role in the game. I think that Grave was greatly affected by her words and having to kill her. I understand where you're coming from because I get sick and tired of people constantly blaming Grave for shit too. Maybe if they had done the right thing, Grave wouldn't have needed to kill them. Nobody seems to think about that. Harry was too fucking impatient. He would have eventually ran Millenion. We just have to remember that Sherry is seriously blinded by love. Harry could do no wrong in her eyes.

During the beginning I had no idea what Mika was holding in her hand. Maybe she found it while doing some investigating. I can't get over how great she was in the story. The way the anime and games explain the orc transformation process are so different from one another. I had to throw a lot of the anime stuff out of my mind while watching the game.

Wasn't that funky how that rain of blood made Grave glow? I want to say that it kinda looked like he absobred it into his body but that would be weird (then again so is the GG story). Its like right after that, it was ASS KICKING TIME!

That part confused me! I knew someone's ass was about to get kicked but I didn't know what was going on with Grave. For a second I thought, "When did this game turn into Devil May Cry?" *LOL* I thought that was a red aura around him like he was going to transform or something. We know Grave is powerful (especially after that scene when he restored himself) but damn! *LMAO* Your explaination makes a lot more sense.

I thought that was very sweet of Jyuji to do that as a momento, something else that you'd never think J of doing.

Jyuji is a big sweetie! He works his hardest to hide it. His character's development in OD was one of the most enjoyable aspects for me. He initially seemed so cold but he's a really nice guy. *LOL* Maybe RB is a bad (good) influence on him. The goggles went with his outfit nicely. *sniffles*
