As for the ear doctor appt:



My appt was at 10am and for awhile, I began wondering if I might have misheard the lady on the phone on Mon when I called. It was probably around 10:30 or so till they FINALLY called my name. I don't think I ever had to wait that long at the reg. doc's and they didn't look overly busy. THEN when I did finally go into the room, I had to wait another 10-15 mins till the doc showed up. Told her all what happened when scubaing and checked my ears. Before she went any farther, I had to sit in that sound booth again to test my hearing. I always hate that cause at times it sounds like you hear other noises that aren't a part of the testing so you can't figure out "now was that the real beep or not?" For some reason, the test results of my left ear, the doc. wasn't overly happy with it since a certain area on the print out was a tad lower than the last time I was there in Nov. And of course the fluid in the right.

I can't quite recall everything that she was explaining to me since they speak in big medical terms. For my right ear, she mentioned something about the Eustachian Tube. Check out the different links they got on the bottom that tells and shows you how other things work in the ear. Very informative (plus a bit to understand what is wrong with me). Now the scuba instructor did say that if you can not pressurize your ears correctly, you'll have problems (yeah, no shit!). So because I couldn't do it right and the fact that my body would keep floating upwards when I should've been down closer to the bottom supposedly fucks with your eustachian tube if you can not level yourself properly. From what she told me though, when something disrupts that tube area, its a place where they have to keep a keen eye out for since it sounds like something that shouldn't be fucked with compared to other areas of the ear.

And like I mentioned before, its amazing just how much the ears and nose work together or the problems that one or the other causes, affects each other. Since the eustachian tube is connected to the nasal area sure as hell isn't helping me. Which would explain the stuffy nose and the first few days this problem started, I was sneezing alot. Thank god that this happened near the end of the trip instead of at the beginning cause I would've been in a world of hurting the rest of that week.

I forgot to mention it the first time I had my ears checked out last yr, both my ear doc and the doc on the ship said about how I have small ear canals. I should ask my doc if thats good or bad. Its not often I hear doctor's say that to ppl. When I told my older sis that the other day, she was even surprised to hear that.

Most of the time while going to a check up at the ear doc, if they see some build up of wax, they'll go ahead and remove it. Last time I went in she vacuumed it out but this time, she put this cool wet nap thingy around the area of the opening of the ear and took a small ear wax picker to clear the wax out. Felt so funky to feel her scrape around that area, it kinda tickled but actually made it itch to where you wish you could just scratch. Perhaps thats what dogs and cats feel like when they scratch at their ears. Though its not a quite so pleasant feeling on having something poking around in your ear like that.

Another interesting read is about the things that cause an ear ache. If you go here and scroll down to "What Causes Otitis Media?". Boy, that eustachian tube sure does come into play for alot of things. The next two down "What to Expect at the Doctor's Examination" and the 2nd paragraph tells you of the two different testings they do for your hearing, those are the two that I have to go through in the sound booth.

So the outcome right now is:

"No more scuba diving for you." She tells me. I already told her I told myself that already after we finished scubaing.

Next time I get a gut feeling about something whether it be about my body or anything else, GO WITH THE GUT FEELING! I could've canceled the scuba and got my money back but I really didn't think it would fuck with my ears THIS bad. Thanx for not listening to myself. *kicks self*

What I've had done and what I have to do:

Got a shot in the hip/booty area :( When the nurse came in after my examination was done, she's like "Becky Smith, correct?"

Me: "Yeah". I knew she came in to give me my shot and joked with her. "Is this for the shot?"

Nurse: Yes.

Me: Okay then, no I'm not Becky.

Nurse: Too late, you already told me you were and now you can't back out. *laughs*

Me: Darn!

Was given a small bottle of ear drops. The doc was telling me about it when she was filling out my form "I'll see if we have any of those sample boxes cause to tell you the truth, these drops aren't cheap, they usually run around $90." O__________________O So she did have one handy but this is what I don't get. I have to put 4 drops in the right ear, twice a day for 7 days. There is NO WAY IN HELL this ONE INCH bottle of drops is going to last that long. I'll be surprised if I have any left before the end of the week. And if I run out before I go back next week, I'm hoping if I call the office, they could give me another little bottle to see me through.

Have to take 1 antibiotic pill every day for 10 days.

Was given another prescription for Nasonex nasal spray. This is to help with the inflammation in the nasal area to the ear to help it drain that way too. The more drainage whether it comes out of the nose or ear, the better.

Not sure how many ppl pay attention to commercials on tv, this nasal spray is advertised with a talking bee around some flowers who's having sinus problems. Let me tell you, this nasal spray ain't cheap either. With our co-pay it was $30 but I'm really curious to see the original price w/out the insurance.

Flush out my nose with warm salt water with the syringe she gave me last time. I guess the warm salt water is to help drain that area as well. (I never understood why that would help)


I go back for a check up next Thurs morning and hope to hell that this shit clears up like it should. I'm tired of this broken body whether it be ears or my fucking teeth! Might as well put me out of my misery. I'm not even 30 yet!!!!! (though it could be worse, I could be going through the problems my middle sis has been having with her health)

I think what I'll do regarding the write up about the vacation, is to make it into parts. Be easier that way instead of making one big ass entry. Gives me time to write different sections down.

You didn't bore me to death with your ear. I'm just so sorry you have to go through this. Oh man, a shot in the booty! *HUGS* I hope that doctor has some more sample bottles of that medication. $90 is damned expensive.

That website you linked was very informative. I used to get ear infections ALL the time. I hope that after you get done with all the antibiotics that you won't have any lasting problems as a result of scuba diving. That sounds like such a fun thing to do and it would be a shame if it caused you permanent damage.

Yeah ear stuff sucks so much ass, even more so knowing it's hereditary (just about all the problems come from dad's side of the family). I had to laugh at the nurse on her instructions before she gave me my shot. Hard to say what place I hate getting shots at, my arm or hip/booty. It probably hurts less with the 2nd choice.

I'm trying to go with just putting those drops in my ear once a day and reduce the amount. Hopefully that will see me to the weekend and call on Mon and see what the doc thinks about giving me more if necessary.

I'm glad I found that website, caught my eye on the spot. Some of the others I came across didn't seem quite as informative plus they didn't have those neat pics like that link did. I hope that with all these ear problems I had since I was a kid till now, doesn't affect my ears too much when I get old.

Wrote the beginning of the trip last night, just have to get around to posting it in the morning.

OH!!! I will be emailing you this morning about a belated bday gift fic idea I came up with. Just need a bit of direction regarding certain scenes. I'll give you a bit of time to think but if possible, try to get back with me as soon as you can. I'll also be sending a pic along that inspired me. I think you'll get a kick out of it.

I started to listen to Velvet Revolver and needless to say, I was quite surprised. I was thinking that it would be a disappointment since I only heard what songs they play by watching the music vids. I actually like it. It has almost an old STP style (though nothing will EVER come close to what STP where back during the 1st album) and the background music is no where near anything like G'N'R (thank god).

I'm slowly but surely listening to all that I can, its such a nice feeling to have different music to listen to now since there isn't shit out there to really listen to.
