Update on kitty, AX cosplay pics, and stuff

Well I was pretty much on the mark as to how much it was going to cost to have Sam at the vet when it came to tests and such. I really need to get off my ass and post a whole bunch of stuff I've been meaning to sell. Need to earn some money for all the vet bills.

So bubba brings Sam home later Fri since he had to stay all day to get blood & pee samples as well as an x-ray. Once Sam was let out of his carrier, he went straight to eating and so far at the time he didn't puke (of course that came later). We wouldn't have his results back till Sat morning. I was going to stop by the vet's anyways after I got home from work. So before I got there, the vet calls the house and leaves a message about Sam's results which he says one thing and tells me something different when I go to the office. I tend to believe what I was told than what bubba tried to remember what all the vet said on the message (he deleted it so he couldn't back up his story).

His blood came back okay. His pee had a tiny bit of blood in it but nothing to where it was enough to worry. He had a few tapeworms and I think this was the part that the vet said was caused by fleas not so much as of right now but from past flea problems that this can occur. Which doesn't surprise me since Sam had a bad case of fleas when we first moved into the lake house and I heard that fleas can cause problems with animals organs. They de-wormed him twice for two different cases I guess. For as long as we had Sam we never had to de-worm him either.

Course the vet started to talk in BIG WORDS that a simple human can only shake their head and nod pretending to know what the fuck they are talking about. For the x-ray, his organs look good but there is a slight black splotch I think somewhere around/in his intestine. I can't remember what kind of blockage it might have been cause it dealt with a big word. I also think that this splotch was what the vet said about future surgery if it causes any problems or if the blockage doesn't go away. They would either have to go through his throat or his belly (which said the belly would be easier to see things better).

Even though the tests came back okay, he said it was still kinda hard to diagnose what he could have that would make him puke since it still could be a variety of things. The vet is hoping that perhaps with the de-worming, it could help aid whatever might have been making Sam sick. We're also going to look into changing their food again to a high fiber.

Oh yeah, the ear problem that Sam had the last time, well it came back but not as bad. I had a feeling it did too just cause of the way he had some build up in his ear. I have to resort to putting that cream in both ears again. The vet said that it was normal for it to come back once an animal has had it before.

Poor Sam was so mopey on Friday and I asked the vet if they had to sedate him in order to get the samples they needed. He said they did just a little cause of all the poking and prodding they had to do to him. At least Sam wanted affection that evening when he came home. I went to scratch under his chin and thought something was missing. They shaved a small patch of fur under his neck in order to use that main vein for the blood. I'm wondering if Smokey didn't have his blood work done right before we bought him cause he was missing a patch of hair too in the same area.

Sam did puke a little I guess sometime late Fri night. Then when we got back from the weekend on Monday, I found a bit more puke but thank god its only been a little, not like the huge piles from before. I have yet to find any new puke from yesterday but I'm crossing my fingers that there is none. Seems like he still pukes after he eats.

Sam almost has to be over 10yrs old and for the slight problems he's going through, the surgery is out of the question. In fact, any more vet stuff is out of the question cause not only has bubba said so, but I have agreed as well. Though bubba has been talking smack about putting Sam down so he can quit spending money we don't have on a pet. My housecat back home who as a kitten came from our farm, lived to be over 13 yrs old and she was both an indoor/outdoor cat who had no shots or de-worming. If she lived that long (she would've lived longer if there wasn't a careless accident that took her life), Sam can too without all the vet mumbo jumbo.

~*~*~

Hope those on my flist had a better holiday weekend than I had. Talk about a crap-tastic boring weekend. It would've been better on just staying home by THE POOL and cooking out there. We were at bubba's sister's and pretty much our time was wasted. Sat evening we did go out on the lake in the boat since my niece wanted to go tubing. That was pretty much it when it came to the water or boating. Sunday....UGH....ALL day Sunday was spent moving my nephew's belongings to storage since they had to be out in two days. Good thing they already had their shit packed. It was sooooooooooo fucking hot that day and I think it got even hotter by the evening. But at least Chris paid for everyone's lunch and we got nearly a brand new dryer out of the deal too. Chris, who doesn't use his brain's very much (and its sad cause he's 24 going on 4), rented a 10x10 storage shed O____________O and we BARELY got all their shit packed into that tiny space. But bubba and his b-i-l managed to make everything fit. We got done around 7'ish, ate dinner, and bubba crashed out pretty quick. I was looking forward to Monday since that Sat. And cause of us not doing anything, we didn't see any fireworks either.

Bubba had so many calls Monday night between grass fires, bon fires, etc. that he didn't go to work till later. Plus with him waking up in the middle of the night to go to these calls messed my sleeping up as well, I felt like shit the next morning.

Regarding AX. It never fails that the time that I DIDN'T plan on going to this yr, they have a whole bunch of guests that I would've fawned over so much. From the sounds of it, one of the special guests was Hellsing's creator *weeps!!!*. I'm STILL hoping and praying that I can attend next yr's AX, that will be a first for me. I was checking out fansview and noticed that there are just too many FF cosplay pics & Narutards. I was hoping to see more Bleach cosplayers but what little fansview took, I guess sated me for the time being.

I'm posting the links under the cut (except for a few). Sometimes you might have to copy and paste the link in order to see the pic.

I never really got into cosplay but the Gungrave cosplayers look good. I need to d/l that again off BT.

Yeah it takes a very good cosplayer to make me admire them. Some are nice and some can be complete bitches or you have the ones that ACT like they are the character and you can't drill it into their head that they are NOT the actual character.

Hmmm....we bought a dvd burner so once the last dvd comes out this month, I could look into seeing if I can burn the dvds for you though the only thing I'll charge is $5 cause these dvd discs are more expensive than the reg. cd-r's.

I'll let ya know when the time comes.

I hope that blockage that Sam has goes away. It's good to hear that he isn't throwing up as badly as he was before. Getting rid of those tapeworms couldn't have hurt.

Those GGOD cosplayers did an awesome awesome job. The Bleach cosplayers were really good too!

So far so good on him not puking since this past weekend. Every day I check the whole house and under the beds to make sure there isn't any puke and there hasn't been.

When I take him in for his check up, I'm going to have to ask the vet again what that blockage is since there were areas that even he wasn't sure of. I'm not sure if he's going to have to get another x-ray again or not but it wouldn't surprise me if he has to.

I was quite impressed with the GG peeps especially the dude that made the casket probably out of cardboard. And the Bleach cosplayers impressed me just as much.

What's Sam eating? 10 years old isn't that old for a cat, and maybe a diet change could help him out.

My dog (10 year old Lab) was vomiting food and blood for awhile, and with drugs and a food change, he's back to normal, and doing better now.

[identity profile] yankeerose69.livejournal.com 2005-07-09 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
A PetSmart brand called Authority. For the longest time we were giving them 9Lives but when they started to quit stocking the flavor we used, one of the employee's were talking to us about their food and told us the ingredients that differ from 9Lives to Authority. So we decided to use what they rec'ed us.

But after this ordeal, I asked the vet and he said to try out Science Diet. Once their bag is empty, I'll see what PetSmart has on hand.

At times I can't believe that Sam is that old, if not older.

Did they say what it was that was making your dog do that since you had to give it drugs? Knock on wood but after last weekend, while Sam was still going through the de-worming process in his system, that was the last time he puked. Since Tues, I checked everywhere in the house & under beds to make sure there wasn't any puke. And right now, there hasn't been. I take him in for a check up in about 2 weeks.

I know my hubby acts like it wasn't a big deal to begin with but it was scaring me every single day Sam was puking at least twice a day. I forgot to add in the entry that even with all that he was doing, he didn't lose any weight which took a load off my shoulders.

[identity profile] puchuupoet.livejournal.com 2005-07-09 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
They still have no real idea about my dog. They took x-rays, ultrasounds, and the next step, if the drugs didn't work, was an endoscopy (?), where they stick a camera down his throat to see if there's anything blocking or screwing up his intestines.

Right now he's on four or five different drugs, three I think are vet prescribed, as well as Benadryl and Pepcid AC. He suffers from seperation anxiety, which we thought was part of the problem, but we're not sure what brought on the bloody vomit.

He's been on various combinations of drugs for the past three years or so, and with this combination, he's doing the best he's ever been (which is still mediocre, as far as general dog health goes).

Out of curiousity, did the vet say why you should switch to Science Diet? The way pet food quality is changing, off the shelf Science Diet is considered "mediocre" compared to the new foods out there (organic, human grade, made out of actual animals, not animal bits and pieces). Science Diet has agreements with most vets that allow only vets to sell certain types of SD food. I hate to be overly paranoid, but some vets only recommend SD for the kickbacks.

While I don't know too much about Authority, see what the first 3 ingredients are. There should be protein (chicken, not chicken meal or by-products, for example), and there shouldn't be corn or wheat. Rice is usually okay.

Hopefully some of that helps, and it's not me being too bullheaded :)

Well, I spoke too soon. Sam started puking again last Fri. I'm at my wits end!! We can't afford the vet anymore and hubby won't put anymore money into the cat. I'm going to stop by the vets sometime this week and ask them again about that splotch that was on his x-ray and perhaps find some other alt's that might help aid in his digestion. Cause it seems like whatever that blockage is, isn't allowing him to digest his food all the way. Yet Sam has not lost any weight and he does drink his water. I just wish there was a way to loosen up that blockage so he can shit it out or SOMETHING!!

I think too that they would probably do the endoscopy on him to see what that thing is but again, can't afford it.

As much as I don't want to do this, I'm going to ask them at the vet's if there is a place that will take animals in, like a refuge of sorts. I love Sam dearly but I can't keep cleaning up this puke and without having money to help him out, he's just going to have to suffer with whatever is wrong.

I guess the Science Diet thing was just something they have on hand that he said to try out. I did try it out the other day of the sample he gave me but Sam still puked so I'm just keeping to what they eat now.

And it just kills me how Sam was perfectly fine before we went on vacation and when we got back was when he started puking. I wish I could say it was something he ate that he wasn't supposed to but *shrugs* you can never tell cause its like why after all this time, did it start now when it had a chance to do it earlier.

Talk to your vet and see if offering him pineapple juice would be okay. Pineapples and papayas contain enzymes that help break down hair blockage, and I've used them before with my long-haired rabbits. I've had customers tell me they've used it with their cats before (pineapple juice), and had their problems with hairballs disappear.

There's places out there that offer payment plans, and also once place that collects and distributes money to help people in bad situations with emergency problems with their animals. Not sure if Sam qualifies for that though. I can try and dig up the link, if you want.

[identity profile] yankeerose69.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
I decided to stop at the vet this past morning and talk more again about what was on the x-ray and stuff. The small foreign object that shows in the x-ray is located in his pancreas which seems like that has nothing to do with the digesting of the food or why he's been puking. He said until they do exploratory surgery, Sam could have something else in him that isn't showing up in the x-ray, blood & pee samples. For example, he was telling me about how his retriever one yr ate one of those small golf towels and didn't know about it till they had to cut her open. They did some sort of test and when whatever it was was still in her stomach (I guess it was supposed to go through her system), its when they cut her open and saw that she had eaten that towel. The towel didn't even register on the x-rays. And cause of that, it already irrupted her intestine to where they had to do a good bit of work on her.

I told him how Sam was fine before we went on vacation and when we came back, it was either while we were away or the day after was when he started puking. Now if Sam perhaps have eaten something he shouldn't, could be the case (but what it could be, I have no clue since we don't let things lay on the floor). But we don't have $500 for them to cut him open and look around. Plus I'm a bit weary of his age and having him cut open like that. And I also brought it up how he went a week of not puking after he went in for those tests and the vet was actually shocked and had no explanation why that might have occurred.

I'm going back in the morning to pick up I think some anti-inflammatory medicine just in case he might have an inflamed bowel but like the vet said, its not a cure since we don't know what the problem is. If this medicine doesn't work, then I know it has to some something that could be stuck in him.

Not sure if Sam qualifies for that though. I can try and dig up the link, if you want.

Yes, please do! The more help the merrier. I wouldn't even know where to look or ask for stuff like this. The assistant wasn't of any help when I asked her about certain places.

[identity profile] puchuupoet.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
http://www.carecredit.com/ - this one I believe helps you with a payment plan to deal with the cost of expensive vet care.

http://www.thepetfund.com/ - while this one helps pay for part or all of the cost of surgery.

I haven't researched too deeply into either one, so I can't give you much more help in that sense, but they both seem like they could come in handy.

Keep me updated :)
