Re: Understanding....

I know exactly how you feel. I work for a school district and they block so much junk that doesn't need to be.... I mean, we were working on inventions with kids and have the websites were blocked because they might have games. Gimme a break....

Oh geez louise! Dumb shit like that is enough to make you want to hunt down whoever it is that blocks the stuff on the servers. I know I feel that way everytime I go to a certain site and its blocked. Yet the ones that need to be blocked aren't. I would think that schools would be more strict on the blockage then what reg. work places would be.

And we've been locked out of yahoogroups for forever because it has a CHAT feature.

I sometimes wonder if thats why they did that here too. They blocked YG last summer for a few months which pissed me off but yet I still had access to my yahoo email account. Then later I kept checking up on it and was surprised that they had it back up, only not long after they disabled all internet webased email accounts that aren't work related. Now when it comes to chat, before we had the new Dells, I could chat on my reg computer with AIM. I just couldn't download MSN or Yahoo which was odd. Then when we got the new systems, you could download the AIM file but when it came to setting it up, a window would come up saying that you had to have the admin something or other to get it to go through. Which is why I'm glad we have another computer on the side that isn't really the same set up as the one I normally use. This is the company based computer, the other compy I use to chat on is by IBM and aren't on the same system hence why I could download AIM with no probs. Now that with these other PC's we just got in, I'm going to have to make me a copy of the Real Player file and AIM and see if I can't set them up on this since they have a block on both sites (well the download for the AIM section anyways) I'm hoping that it all works come monday night.

I'm waiting for them to cut off Livejournal myself - then I will have a hissy fit! I mean, come on! Before and after school hours and at lunch, I should have the right (as an adult) to do as I please with my equipment.

You and I and I'm sure many others that do this at work feel the same way. It use to be that YG was my outlet but since alot of the ML's have been quiet, lj is what keeps me going when I'm really bored. I would totally have a fucking fit if that ever happens, hell I'm surprised that they haven't from the beginning.

And what irks me more, is now I can't even set the background of my computer because it's all district forced.

OMG! That is so retarded! I'm glad that they give us that freedom to customize what we want on our computers. If not, then it would be boring to sit and look at the same dumb pic all the time. I'm glad that I don't share my sign on section with anyone else in my area, we each have our own sign on and make up. When they had the XP installed, that night I called hubby and asked him how to change it back to the original style. Then I always use some sort of anime for my wallpaper which I'm sure would question anyone as to what is that if they ever saw my screen. ^__^

Hell, my husband is a sys admin at his job and he can search for things to buy and watch ebay at work and the president of the bank can research travel spots for vacation then I should darn well be allowed to use the internet how I choose as well!

Well that too I'm really shocked (knock on wood) that they allow us to do that too. Especially for ebay. I check it out from time to time and sometimes thats how I win my late night auctions *snickers* Its been up and going since I've been working here for 3 yrs now. I just don't understand why they put a block on those internet radio stations for. Its not like listening to music is a crime since how this building is set up, you can't get certain radio stations on the radio.

I wasn't able to rant at any of the head computer geeks about it but I've voiced my complaint to the ppl I work with who agree with me too.
