AnimeFest rundown and FMA/RoyxRiza cosplay pics

The con itself, had to have been THE WORSE Afest I ever been to! And they were on such a roll too on getting good guests and such in the past. I couldn't believe how much has changed in a year's time. In fact, when we got there Sat. afternoon, it wasn't as full as last yr when we showed up. [livejournal.com profile] guardianhunter and I were looking at each other going "WTF?" So those that usually go but didn't this yr, be glad you saved your money, time, and gas.

The only part about it that I liked doing was manning [livejournal.com profile] telophase's art table while she was attending some panels and staying to help when she got back.

I checked out the dealer's room a bit, saw Tut and her hubby and chatted with them for awhile. FINALLY got Renji and Rukia cellphone straps!!!!!!! And was nice enough to buy Adit a little gifty for being such a good sport:

And Anna got him a Roy card done by [livejournal.com profile] telophase.

That was all I found worth buying since money was tight this yr. Though there was a table on Sun. that had their manga's 30% off but had to smack my hand cause I couldn't indulge.

Course the dominating cosplayers were Naruto (ALOT of little kids), FFAC, Kingdom Hearts, and a handful of Bleach, FMA, and Ouran. Quite a few ppl I talked to was nothing but Naruto so I can imagine how HUGE Bleach will be after it airs this weekend. Seen alot more younger kids with their parents too this yr.

~*~

When we got to the con Sat. we walked around downstairs to find [livejournal.com profile] telophase and Adit goes "Is this all there is to do?" His attitude changed later on in the day which was WAY too fucking funny. There was a girl who was dressed as Kikiyo who first wanted a hug from "Roy". And almost everytime we saw her, she would ask him for hugs. Almost had a stalker *coughRACHELcough* on our hands but thank god it was just for hugs though and not following us around like a lost puppy.

On Sunday, I sooooo wished I would've been there to see it but Adit comes back to the art table telling me about how a 5yr old boy glomped him. Then the FMA group from the pic came over to the table (they weren't dressed up this time) and the Riza asked Roy if he could snap his fingers for her friend to make her day. I couldn't stop laughing when I think about that.

Alot of ppl were impressed with how Adit pulled off on looking like Roy. Not to be biased but we think he was probably the best one there of the few that were dressed as Roy. There was an Ed that asked Roy if he could pose for a pic and I'm not sure if the Ed was from the group we've had a pic taken of or not that is in the cut. I swear they make anime hair seem so easy to do but IT'S NOT!! Riza's hair is so hard to pull up and have that little bit sticking up behind her head. Plus it doesn't help that I don't have bangs. The only reason the other Riza could pull it off better is that she had a wig on. There was no way I could just flip my hair in half and clip a barrette on it. Anna had to braid it half way then flip it up but we didn't play with it to make it stick up in the back.

To see the full view of the pics, click on the actual pic. You can also click it again to make it come up in bigger form. (same goes with the ones in the gallery)

After that shot, some other FMA cosplayers came over and wanted a group shot. I was so happy to see such a rare sight of a Hughes AND Gracia! Yes, that is me on the far left.

Once we did a walk through of the con, I told Anna that I wanted to go outside to take some pics of us across the street at an area that was pretty decent to take pics at.

This is probably my fav. pic of Roy/Riza:

Roy being a total goob:

And everytime I see this pic, I laugh my ass off as to how I posed Rukia:

[livejournal.com profile] guardianhunter and myself.

Roy killed us for the way he walked. He seemed to strut and the skirt (or whatever you call that wrap around) flowing behind him suited him so well.

Riza doing her Sling Blade impression. "Mmmhmmm...I reckon I'm gonna take me some of these taters home with me."

Sat. night we walked around on the roof and this one spot had a very odd wind going on. The first time before Anna took my pic, all of my hair was flying straight up. When she went to take my pic, it only blew it half way.

Sorry [livejournal.com profile] guardianhunter, I HAD to post this. *snerk* Roy with a VERY bad case of bed-head.

And to see the rest of the pics I didn't post, you can view them HERE.

I'm not sure if it was Sat night or on Sunday when Adit already asked about next yr. *giggles* Who knew that for someone not knowing a damn thing about anime, cons, and cosplaying, that he took to it so well? Then again, I think he loved all the attention. *pops head* [livejournal.com profile] guardianhunter and I are already scheming about what to dress him as next yr.

I thought of this last night but what do you guys think about Hisagi from Bleach? (that is a newer pic of him from the Soul Sonic event '06)

I think that for the way I've been feeling about A-kon and AnimeFest, it's time to move on. The TX cons are such a disappointment now-a-days. You'd think for such a big state, they'd have bigger and better things going on but sadly, they don't. But this sucks for me cause it's so damn expensive to cough up the dough to go to the out of state cons while A-kon and AnimeFest are only 32 miles away.

Future cons I'd still like to go to:

AX
AE
uuuuhhhh.....Otakon (don't hurt me [livejournal.com profile] guardianhunter *laughs*)
and of course Anime Boston (cause Anna threatened me that she would have to drag me there if worse came to worse).

So thats the whole scoop on the poop.

Enjoy the pics!

You guys have to come up here to Anime Detour... bring our act up north and show these yankees how it's done! Hell, if it gets boring, there's always the Mall of America across the street!

Damn Right

[identity profile] guardianhunter.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
It's better than Yours!!! *ROFL*

Oooh-rah, Baby!!! *giggles* I think that shall be our mission. Detour and Boston. But if we make it to Detour, Homes, You gotta come to Boston!!!!

*giggles*

Tee hee hee!!!

[identity profile] yankeerose69.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 09:55 am (UTC)(link)
I shall have to keep that one in mind. It'd be neat to see that Mall too after all the pics I used to see of it.

[identity profile] akuni.livejournal.com 2006-09-07 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh those pics were so worth the wait!! How amazing is that Roy?! Totally. Looks like everyone had a great time. :)

Love the plushies, too. ^_^ Thanks so much for posting these!

[identity profile] yankeerose69.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 10:22 am (UTC)(link)
I let Roy go walk around by himself while I was at the art table. But it was so funny while we were all walking around cause some of the other FMA cosplayers (in the uniforms) would give us a double take. Other ppl were impressed on the uniforms but sadly, I could not take any credit.

I kinda wished there was more to do at the con but I'm glad we did that small photoshoot. I told Anna that we need to find an area where it would be decent to take better photos at. Too bad I didn't have an extra black coat for Roy to wear since I have my own.

I have more pics to post before I go on vacation in regards to the plushies that I took while on vacation back home in PA. I DID post pics though of Renji last yr when I first bought him at Afest. We had so much fun with him that it started a trend on what to do with my plushies. And now that I have a Rukia to take along to PA, I can't wait to pose them together.

Here is the entry of Renji at Afest:

Glad you enjoyed the pics.

[identity profile] akuni.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Those pics are HYSTERICAL! *rolls around laughing*

'Renji's adventures in con-land' is a great theme... I can't wait to see 'RenRuki adventures in con-land' from PA! ^_^

[identity profile] yankeerose69.livejournal.com 2006-09-12 11:25 am (UTC)(link)
The pics I still have yet to post of Renji in PA last yr, has alot of my nephews in it cause they wanted to be the one to hold or pose Renji. *lol* Or if we went somewhere, they'd be like "can we take Renji along?" *hehehehehe* Getting them started while they are young. I'm hoping the weather is nice while I'm home on vacation cause since my family lives out in the country, there's alot of good outdoor spots.

[identity profile] akuni.livejournal.com 2006-09-12 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)

*laugh* Yes, it's good to get them started early. ^_^ Do they have any clue about Bleach, or do they just think they have a cool aunt who likes to play with stuffed toys?

Outdoor sports, eh? I have this mental image of a slightly soggy Renji on a waterski... lol!

[identity profile] mel-mel-chan.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
it was awesome getting to finally meet you face to face. wanted to talk more, stopped by when you were at your friend's table on sunday, but you were in the middle of conversation and I didn't want to interrupt. For afest it sucked. But simply for the fact that I could run around at 2am in the morning being goofy and cosplaying with one of my best friends and not get harrassed about it made it 10x better than akon. I really wish there had been more to do, and I really missed the jpop room cause that's my home when I don't have anything better to do. Cosplaying was almost the only thing I did and I kinda regret paying for the weekend since the only two places I went that needed a badge was the dealer room and the cosplay show (which i had to walk out on). I'm looking forward to onicon next month. it's out of town, but i haven't been before. Plus I'm such a fangirl of thier musical guest 12012. I will be working a portion of it and probably working my bum off for it, but the company I'm with are con guests so that might be an interesting new experience.

[identity profile] yankeerose69.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 11:09 am (UTC)(link)
YES! You too! I knew I was forgetting a few other things when I made my entry. Were you in costume on Sunday?

What was the deal with Akon when it came to running around in costume late at night?

I really wish there had been more to do, and I really missed the jpop room cause that's my home when I don't have anything better to do.

There really WASN'T anything to do. I still don't get why they didn't have a j-pop room, that is unheard of.

What costume did you go out into the cosplay show as? I've been to Ushicon once when they used to have it but I haven't been to Onicon yet.

I'm curious to hear the thoughts of the con goers and such at the end of the con if there was any ppl attending the gripe session on Monday.

It was really weird to see on Sat that the line for the registration wasn't even out of control with how big the line would be. Other yr's it was fucking packed when you walked by. One of the roommate's let me borrow her badge so I could see what they had for art in the auction section in the dealers room. Even that section was lacking.

Hope Onicon is a good one for you.

OMG!!!!

[identity profile] guardianhunter.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU POSTED THAT PIC!!!!!!! *dies laughing*

OMG, really... the con HAS BEEN better. (I told someone it was a sweeter/better con when I was staffing it. ~_^)

You'd think for such a big state, they'd have bigger and better things going on...

Ya know... this is the state that requires 300 hours to license for massage therapy and only gives you a MINIMUM of 25 hours of muscle learning. Yeah... you learn not to expect much.

At least we hoped. Oh well... we now have a new toy... er... boy to dress up in cosplay!!! *BOL*
(BTW:: the boy playing Roy... ha ha... is my child!!! Isn't he cute???? *LOL*)

Re: OMG!!!!

[identity profile] yankeerose69.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
I just HAD TO!!!

What's sad is that even our first Afest was so much better than this crap. I would've loved to have been a fly on the wall to hear of any complaints during the gripe session they had on Monday after the con is over. That is if there was any ppl left to stay for it.

Hmmm...I like the term Boy Toy better. *TEHEHEHEHE*

God, can you imagine if we are able to get him to dress as Hisagi? His head would EXPLODE from the attention. But to him, all that matters is the SHINY!sword.

Re: OMG!!!!

[identity profile] guardianhunter.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 11:59 am (UTC)(link)
*ROFL*

You are SO RIGHT!!!!!

Anna: Look! You get a sword!!
Boy: Can I swing it and hit people?
Anna: No.
Boy: Please?
Anna: NO!
Boy: Why not? It'll be fun!
Anna: >.<;;;;;;

*LOL*

It's true. The first one was the best cause of who was in attendance and cause we all got to meet for the first time. *sigh*..... But ya know... its better this way. At least we get to see WHY people fade out of Anime and TX cons.

Tee hee hee...

[identity profile] andrea-sins.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Hisagi is hot, deep, intense, serious... plain ♥.

[identity profile] yankeerose69.livejournal.com 2006-09-12 11:25 am (UTC)(link)
So true.

[identity profile] rocketkatze.livejournal.com 2006-09-08 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
waah! how cute! you guys make a great roy and riza. i was going to goto animefest but due to lack of funds, i could not.

will you guys be at akon?

[identity profile] yankeerose69.livejournal.com 2006-09-12 11:29 am (UTC)(link)
Thanx! Some things could've been fixed here and there but overall, I was pretty pleased on how we turned out.

Well at least you didn't have to worry about losing money by going to Afest. It truly was a shitty con and I was quite disappointed, the worse they've had since I first started going there in '01.

As for Akon, not sure yet. Pending on what's going on between now and then in RL. We went this yr but it was only Sat night to go meet a friend for the first time. That's another con I lost alot of respect for. Haven't attended one for 2yrs now.

[identity profile] rocketkatze.livejournal.com 2006-09-12 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, akon was kinda...blah this time around. i've been to 8 cons so far (afest 02-05 and akon 14-17) and akon 17 was the least fun out of them all. but it was due mostly to the staff bein umm...should we say more unorganized then usual this time around?

it was also kinda blah for me cause while i went with friends, my most of cosplay buddies couldn't come. this year we're going as Kingdom Hearts characters (and most of us are going this time), so maybe it'l be fun again.

well i'm rambling...lol....

well i hope to see you guys at akon next year! ^__^

[identity profile] major-ren.livejournal.com 2006-09-09 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
lol, the Rukia plushie is mooning the masses XD nice pics. wish I could go to akon but I'm WAY too far away.

[identity profile] major-ren.livejournal.com 2006-09-09 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
animefest, sry

[identity profile] songohan-83.livejournal.com 2006-09-19 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Bleach plushies and FMA cosplay, sounds like fun. I was at Animefest this year on Saturday(my group was a Bleach group though), and my memory is kinda fuzzy, but we may have seen you and your group there. If we did, that awesome, and if we didn't, it would have been awesome and I should have payed better attention :( But any way you look at it, plushies are awesome!
