I’ve been a bit overdue to write this but now is a good time to do so. Keep in mind that this will contain spoilers to the movie and book since I’ll be comparing bits and pieces of what I can remember of the book. (I don’t feel like re-reading it again at this moment, I have another King book that I need to finish reading)
I went during the matinee on Monday and was surprised that there were at least 8 other ppl there to see it but the funny thing was, they were all older peeps. Pending on the person, I would kinda rec. them to read the book first in order to understand what the deal is but a person could still watch the movie and not read the book. Since I know my mom didn’t read the book, she still went with my older sis to see it and she still enjoyed it. Reason I bring this up is that these two younger punks were sitting behind me and a certain scene came up::
Showing Jonesy with the boxes of files.
I heard the one kid say “what the hell?” and I had a feeling that he didn’t read the book BUT they really didn’t explain in the movie why that was with Jonesy.
The scene is meant to say “This is what is going on in Jonesy’s head, those boxes of files are his memories.”
I was going to be nice enough and try to explain it to the punk but half way through the movie, they got up and left since I guess it was too confusing for them.
My thoughts on the movie..............
This had to have been one of THE much better ones anyone has adapted from a Stephen King book. Granted that the book had certain parts that I wished they would’ve used in the movie but I guess you can’t please ppl all the time. The movie was a bit fast paced which was good, I can’t stand movies that drag on. The actors they had to play for the characters were great. It’s a shame that some of them aren’t overly recognized. But I do agree with my sis, Thomas Jane is without a doubt, a hottie and Jason Lee looks good in this movie too, even with his thick black framed glasses. The male bonding of all 4 guys friendship in the cabin is hilarious, especially with the jokes.
My sis and I were both astounded at how they did the scene when Jonesy got hit and the way his body was twisted on the road was enough to make me feel the pain.
The graphics were great! The shit weasel was everything I imagined but I’m still pretty skeptical about the whole alien thingy. The scene with the lost hunter in the guy's cabin was perfect, just like the book described (got a few laughs at the farting and burping he was doing and seeing Beaver aka Jason Lee’s character, react to what was going on)
Now for my gripes::
I really don’t get the alien aspect that was Mr.Grey. Like I told my sis, when reading the book, the whole time I pictured an old man but I guess in order to make sense of what that red blotch was that was spreading, it does remind you of something that aliens would come up with.
Also in the book, Henry and the military dude Owen both had that disease on their skin, course with Henry, he only had a small amount. And he didn’t contact it till he was put up in that barn prison. When Henry and Owen escaped the barn scene, and after they picked up Duddits, that disease was spreading rabidly on Owen. So by the time they managed to get to the water reservoir, Owen knew that he didn’t have much longer to live but wanted to do what he could so Henry and Duddits could do their job. But of course in the movie, Henry and Owen didn’t have a single red blotch on their skin.
This part I’m sure I might have to edit once I get home since I’m doing this at work and forgot to check the near ending of the book. From what I can recall in the book, Duddits dies IN THE JEEP not in the res building!!!! 2ndly, Duddits is NOT A FUCKNIG ALIEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man that fucking irked me. Sure it might explain why Duddits was special and gave the 4 guys special mind powers but still, I hate how they make shit up in order for it to have some sort of sense in the movie. I forget who it was that told me that perhaps they asked Stephen King about what his thoughts of Duddits was but that alien shit was just too much. Yes I’m still in denial!
My sister and I were contemplating as to why the movie moved quickly yet didn’t leave any important things out (like some movies do). In the book, it focused a lot on the flashbacks when Henry, Beaver, Jonesy, Pete, and Duddits were kids as well as it focusing on a lot of the time we see/read of what all is going on in Jonesy’s head with Mr. Grey. In the movie, they had a few flashback clips of the kids and later with Jonesy’s head, that’s about it. Which perhaps is a good thing cause too much in a movie is a bad thing.
I do recommend anyone who might be interested in seeing this movie or anyone fans of the book. Its quite a different feel than what the older King movies were.
