Finally got around to typing up the small 2 page spread of Gungrave from the Nov'03 issue of Newtype. Also check out the eps. #15 caps I made. The look a likes that I picked out in this anime so far is silly yet I can't help it.
Grave’s hidden past is now revealed?!
Yasuhiro Nightow (the creator of Trigun) lent his talents as character designer to Gungrave, a masterpiece of the action game genre. And now Gungrave has become a TV anime! While the game was released more than a yr. ago, the official website has been continually updated with new developments. The announcement of the anime version is something Gungrave fans have been eagerly awaiting! The anime focuses on the events leading up to Grave’s birth (which was hardly mentioned in the game), as well as the story of Brandon Heat and his best friend/worse enemy Harry McDowel. So this is more than just a TV anime adaptation! The story has a very different structure compared to other anime made from games. We asked director Nobuyuki Tsuru about his real intentions for the project.
“I wanted to portray a human drama. As a member of a creative team, it’s not fun to make something filled with gunfights and half-baked drama. For us, it’s relatively easy to portray the excitement and dynamism of the action itself, but w/out solid dramatization, the viewer will never receive a sense of catharsis.”
Deep down, everyone has intricately intertwined feelings of lust, anger, and agony. While these aspects weren’t the game’s focus, they are clearly laid out in the TV anime. The production team is trying to convey the coolness that can only be shown in anime, and not just carefree action.
Director Tsuru comments, “In the original, the main characters were the ones that grabbed my attention. Why did Brandon have to confront Harry? I thought the drama leading up to that particular point was very interesting. Maybe I felt that way because I saw the human sentiment in it, how some people will do whatever it takes to get to the top. With the anime, I want to show the emotional aspects – how the emotions of the characters don’t always match up. I intentionally tried to avoid homoerotic or effeminate elements in this anime.”
This type of impassioned drama is hard to find nowadays, but this anime is guaranteed to deliver a kind of excitement you just can’t get from the game!
I can't seem to wipe the smile off my face, I love you Mr. Director and Mr. Creator ^___^ In fact, I recall pointing out a certain part of the article, laughing my ass off and showing it to
stella195. And after running it through my head many times, I can so see Brandon getting tired of certain things from certain ppl, finally speaking up saying "I'M NOT YOUR BITCH!" while waving his gun around tehehehehehehehehe.
Also did a little searching for pics and ACTUALLY found a few ppl who cosplayed as Grave. I'm in awe, especially wondering how they made the casket. I'd love to have the Cerberos, his guns, but they are pretty steep as how Alucard's guns are. I think the kit I saw on a japanese site was about $200, alot cheaper than the $400 some moron on ebay is selling ONE gun for!! Come on!! One gun for $400, you're on fucking crack!
Cosplayer #1
Cosplayer #2 The only thing about this, is that their chaps are a bit too yellow. I think a light tan or a white color would fit the costume better.
Cosplayer #1 during the masquerade. Scroll down till you see the Gungrave pics.
And yes, as crazy as it may sound, this would be one badass costume to make if you had the right materials and help *droolslobbercreams*
Not much to say really for eps. 15. Its title is called Harry but I think it should've been called Crazy Harry. We also see the the new dead Brandon/Grave look. I'm hoping by the time eps. 18 comes out called Grave, it will explain what all they might have done to Brandon's body.
I had to upload some Crazy Harry pics as well as the new Brandon.
Whacked Harry
The Ragetti (from PotC)look a like So what if I think I'm nuts for seeing it, its the first thing that came to my mind when I saw his character. Also my thoughts about who Scottie looked like, the late J-Rocker, Hyde.
Brandon/Grave
Phew! I typed up enough for one day.
To be crossposted on
