I finally got around to taking the pics that were in the issue and typed up the article.

The Price of Power

Man’s tragic quest for power

Why are people drawn to power? Why do we hunger for control, for the power to possess everything we wish for? Humans are seduced by power, bewitched by it, controlled by it.

And Harry is not exception. According to director Toshiyuki Tsuru, “In the core of Harry’s being lies the fervent desire for freedom. He was raised as an orphan, and his childhood was marked by abuse and escape. Even when he finally gets [what he thinks will be] freedom, that freedom is eclipsed by the colossal power of the mafia. That’s when Harry must have felt that immense power is needed to achieve freedom.”

But Harry’s youthful longing for the power to set himself free could not remain pure. His struggle for freedom becomes a bloody all-out war the day he learns of the Necrolyze Project, which makes use of forbidden technology to revive the dead.

In Harry’s eyes, everyone is either an enemy or an ally - there’s no in between, and no exceptions. Not even for his best friend Brandon.

“Up until the moment Brandon held him at gunpoint, Harry thought of Brandon as an ally, someone who would understand him. But when Harry realized that Brandon could have killed him, he immediately labeled Brandon an enemy. You could say it was his instinct for survival, an instinct more powerful than fear or sorrow.”

Harry and Brandon’s youthful hopes have been tragically perverted by the lust for absolute power. That tragedy summoned Beyond the Grave – a man who died and then returned to life with the power to destroy anything.

His life changed when he made the decision to kill his friend. But that friend has returned to life and now stands before him as an enemy. Harry’s painful memories of the past mingle with terror.

Beyond the Grave (blurb on Grave's pic)

As he fights, Grave slowly regains lost memories of a past when he was still named Brandon, but those memories tear at his soul. Perhaps his life would’ve been better if he had remained a cold and emotionless killer.

The production style of Director Toshiyuki Tsuru

Men constrained by the past and their own inner conflicts

“The characters in this show are unique, so all sorts of situations come to mind. I think the harsh battles will go on and on, but the characters are still constrained by a past when they were both human. I want to bring out the drama that comes from those constraints. In the last battle, Grave will have to choose between being Beyond the Grave or being Brandon Heat. I’ll work hard to bring out their inner conflicts.”

Gungrave OD

Grave lives again on PS2!

In 2002 the innovative PS2 shooter Gungrave took the world by storm. Now there’s a sequel! Gungrave OD exceeds the previous game in its ability to provide you with the sheer exhilaration of mass destruction. Everything show on screen can be destroyed, from cars to pillars, and even walls. Just like in the first game, the original concept, character conception, and mecha designs were done by Yasuhiro Nightow and Kosuke Fujishima.
