I nabbed this from [livejournal.com profile] cowgirled this was her con experience last weekend at Acen and what was said at Funimation's panel. Hmmm.....do ya think that the ppl that work for these companies actually watch the fansubbed eps too in order to get a grasp on what the series is going to be like? I mean they already got fans of the series who work for Funi so they had to watch it somewhere.

Here is the rundown::

---FMA will indeed be airing on Adult Swim and not Toonami.

--The anime is slated for an October airing date, and the DVD releases will begin in January.

--Winry is Winry Rockbell and Riza is Riza. Ed, Al, Roy, Hughes, etc remain the same of course. The romanization is being kept the same as it appears on Japanese merchandise by all counts so far.

--They are keeping "Melissa." They just chose not to use it on the trailers. However, it was used as part of the promotion video reel at the con. I've heard that due to licensing issues beyond their control they may have to translate the songs and rerecord them in English, but they're working their hardest to keep the original openings and closings. They have several months to resolve the issue before it comes time for the series to air. This isn't something that was discussed either way at the panel.

Other misc things::

The staff member who ran the panel himself is a HUGE fan of the series already. In fact we spotted him in the dealers room buying some FMA pencilboards. XD

One of the women who was working their promotional booth in the dealers room wants to cosplay Riza at Anime Expo, and another staff member was cosplaying Ed.
These people are anime fans themselves, and already fans of this particular series. I don't think that there is any danger of them screwing it up.

At the panel they gave out cute pins each featuring one of the main cast of the series- Ed, Al, Winry, Hughes, Riza, Roy, Scar, and Armstrong. All the badges featured the names of the characters, so that- along with the fact that the Funi staff repeatedly said their names correctly confirmed that issue.

WAIIIIIII!!! *sniffles* Would be nice if they did this for Akon too but I doubt it.

And best of all... Giant Al! Funimation had pictures of two 8-foot tall Al statues they'll be lugging to conventions this summer for promotional display. (Although unfortunately, neither of them could be at Acen.) I believe they will be taking one of them to Project Akon in Texas early June for his first appearance.

The more I think about this, the more I need to be hit over the head. I think I could do a good job as cosplaying as Riza Hawkeye but damn that uniform looks like it would be a pain to make. *slinks away from her beatings* Even cosplaying as Ed would be neat, except the metal arm would be hard to get a hold of or make. Plus he's just my size too *lol*. I don't, don't, don't need anymore costumes damn it!!!

My thoughts about eps. 32. Hmmm.......is Ed and Al's father really dead or is he hiding somewhere???? And what role is Tucker playing in this? He was the one disguised at the bar near the beginning.

Well actually, a friend told me that they infact did see ANBU-Keep's version of FullMetal Alchemist and made a comment about it somewhere. I just don't know where. lol. And it's a good thing it's showing on Adult Swim instead of Toonami. ^__^v

Dove told me that I guess Funi is scouting out every BT site out there to make sure that NO ONE is subbing the rest. #32 was taken down but Dove's hoping that Sonochu (sp?) will keep subbing but do like they did with Wolf's Rain and Gundam Seed. They sub it, upload it and only keep it up for 24hrs, then they take it down. They need to kepep subbing it cause I will NOT buy FMA on dvd if I don't find out how it ends. Sure we can watch the raws but that pisses me off since I don't know what is actually going on.

I'm relieved that they are going for AS instead of Toonami, if they didn't, I'd have to ask them at the con what kind of crack they are smoking.

It seems like he's still alive... Or, if it was translated right, it seems like it. It seemed implied since she asked if they knew where he was. O.o But I guess that could mean something else too. ^^; That scene with the Ishvarites was intense! The Roy&Riza interaction was fun to see though... ^_^

Yeah it boggles the mind regarding their dad and just certain characters over all. I swear, they better cover some ground before they reach the end.

Totally! It never surprises me at the no good that the bad guys do, but then again if they didn't they wouldn't be bad ne? ^_~

YES! I forgot all about mentioning the RxR scene. I sat there and giggled for a bit. It's like saying "yes dear."

I'll get to reading your ficlet soon, maybe even tonight if I keep the reminder on my brain.

Hi... I'm a total stranger who found your LJ through a mutual friend who linked to you. Your info on Funimation's dub is far more uplifting than I was expecting (especially considering that I'm an unrepentant Anime/Manga Elitist Snob) ^_~, and I'd like to share it on my LJ, if you don't mind. Snob that I am, this is the most comforting news about the dubbing treatment of FMA that I've heard, and it's nice to know that those who watch the dub will be getting the best product possible under the circumstances.
