Okay, I really don't know what it is with critters taking refuge at our house lately but it would be nice if it would stop.

Sunday we had the snake incident and now, you wouldn't BELIEVE what bubba found outside the front door on Mon. when he was doing some yard work.

A FUCKING TARANTULA!!!!!!!!!!! Could someone PLEASE tell me how these things come out in the open like this, especially in Texas??!!! For as long as I lived down here, I have never seen such a thing. I wished bubba would've told me about it cause I wanted to see it too but at least he did take pics of it. He swatted it down but said that it seems like it was dieing anyways cause it didn't move much nor put up a fight when he knocked it down. Plus he said it looked kinda frail.

Granted, I don't like creepy crawly things but I've always wanted to pet a Tarantula cause of how fuzzy they look and for some reason, they don't look too ubberly creepy unlike some others.

So yeah, check out the pics HERE and see for your self of this craziness.

The little black tarantulas are native to Texas. When I was a kid my aunt and uncle had bought a new home. For the first couple of years we lived there, after it would rain, the streets would be full of them. I think we kids managed to stomp most of them out because it got to where we didn't see them any more after a rain.

They're about the size of a silver dollar, no where near as large as the big fuzzy brown ones you find in Central and South America.

EGADS! I can't imagine that scene *shudders* I never knew that there were any in Tx or at least out in the open like what we experienced. We Yankee's are sheltered from critters like that.

OMG! That thing was freaking huge and filled with evil! It was like the size of my hand! WTF!? I get freaked out by spiders that thing could accidently step on. I am NEVER moving to Texas.

I don't think the spider was that big. It actually looks kinda small, if anything it might even fit the palm of my hand without going over. I never knew TX had these spiders, I'm just as shocked as you.

Yikes!! I'm so nervous now. Ick!!

I feel little legs crawling up my back after seeing those pictures. *shudder*

On the bright side, it's not as big as the one I found in my bed - couple years ago when I vacationed in Guatemala. ;)

hehehehehe I get that way too.

Oh GOD! I would've fucking freaked and not only that but would be sleeping with one eye open even if the spider did leave. In fact, I was in a similiar situation when I was in Kuwait. We found a Camel Spider clinging to our tent screen and these things can be dangerous though not very poisonues to humans as they are to camel's. AND then the thing was, this fucker was RIGHT NEXT to my cot!!!! Once the bugger skittered away, I had a very hard time sleeping that night, afraid that it would come back. Camel Spiders almost look like a tarantula but yellow in color and a tad bit longer in the body, plus they are fuzzy too.

My thing is, I don't like anything creepy crawly on me nor in my viewing distance. I don't know why that is, perhaps I'm just a chicken shit.

The REALLY big ones are mostly out in West Texas. We get them here every now and then - the cats like to chase them ;)

EEK! Its just weird that NOW out of all the times I've lived here or done field training in the Army in Ft.Hood, I never came across them. I've seen scorpions at my sis-in-law's house when we still lived in Chandler, that was about it. I hope the spiders don't attack the cats.

Gawd damn!

*getting heebie jeebies* That thing is HUGE! You really get a sense of how big it is in the picture with the porch light. I feel bad that it was dying but it could have chose a better place to do that than on your front door.

I once had a run in with a large spider while taking out the garbage. It tried to crawl on my hand when I lifted the lid (I don't think I've ever run that fast in my life) but that tarantula makes that spider look like Pee-Wee. Your husband is a brave brave man because I wouldn't be able to touch that thing with a 20-foot pole. Even though tarantualas look cool, I don't think I would want to see one face-to-face. *shivers*

Re: Gawd damn!

It does kinda look big but I don't think it was overly huge. But then again to us that squirm at the thought of seeing it, it does look big to our eyes. I still want to know where the hell it came from and out of all places, like you said, why the front door??

Hehehehehe I'd have been the same way on running. I think it was more brave of him to pick up that damn snake to get rid of it than taking a broom and do away with the spider. You should see me when I attack any bugs, I smack them so hard and many times just to make sure they are REALLY TRULY dead ^_~

OMG! Where the heck did you move? Into snake/spider central? *shudders* Icky!!!!

DEATH TO CRITTERS!

From: [identity profile] yankeerose69.livejournal.com

I didn't even know that such spiders actually were in TX. And you'd think that all the times I was out doing Army field training, I didn't see any. Though I did see a scorpion or two at my sis-in-law's place at the previous area we lived in. But since the town we live in now, is still kinda undeveloped, in some ways it wouldn't surprise me too much now on seeing critters from time to time.

I would've been doing the heebee jeebee dance if I was out there with bubba when he found the spider. I don't care WHO would've seen me acting like a fool.

DEATH TO CRITTERS!

I'll drink to that!

I won't even LOOOK at the damn things so.... I'm not looking at your pics but I will say that one of my former employees had one that he got off a hump *when they hike in the field* and had it tied to a string and then tied to the door of his truck. That thing was bigger than his HAND and let me tell you... he had some pretty big hands!!!! OH MY GOD.....

ICK... so yeah... no peeking for me. Not even CURIOSITY is going to drag THIS cat to chasing them things.....
