Geez where to start.
wardove and I went to check in early enough so we could get a lower level floor, less we'd have to worry about waiting for an elevator or less flight of stairs to walk. We went to leave to go back to the house and make dinner when I noticed Mike (Heero) sitting on the floor in the con area and a girl who looked very familiar. I told Dove about who I thought I saw and started to walk over. I surprised the hell out of
fangirlsdelight like so::
Me: Hey goober.
Lars: *blinkblink*
Me: I'm Beck.
Lars: *blinkblink* OMG!
We've been trying for the past 2 yrs to try and meet up with one another when I go home to PA but we could never find the time to do so, so it was a real treat to finally meet her. Allow me to stress the word FINALLY.
So we finally left, thankful for the HOV lane since traffic was a bitch leaving Dallas, got home to make a quick dinner when I got a call from
kelroni about the car trouble she had and roughly how late she might be in the morning on showing up. Drove to bubba's work to drop him off dinner and then headed to
herophelia's place so we could all go to the hotel in one vehicle. We got to the hotel just in time to pick up our pre-reg's since they were closing it at 10 or 10:30 though the fucking info on the board in the con area said from 11:30. Got settled in the room and zonked out till I heard Kelly and the chibi come in around 5am.
Now I must say I was pleased with where Akon was at this yr. The area for the con itself was great. The 1st floor was the artist alley/Komik, the autograph signing area, the vid rooms and the ballroom where they would hold the concerts/cosplay/dance/etc. This helped soooooooooo much cause where the con use to be & where the artists were set up at, made it so crowded to try and walk around and if you stopped to check out a table, you usually ended up in ppl's walking space. This time, you had plenty of room to walk and still take your time to check things out at ppl's tables.
The 2nd floor had production company booths for ex. Funimation, Bandai, and misc things. The dealers room was also on the same floor and had enough space inside that they didn't have to mess with having two rooms like at the previous hotel. Still didn't have much shit that interested me in buying, which is a good thing. Since the hotel's skywalk was connected to the con area on the 2nd floor, the hotel part also held vid rooms and other things I haven't checked out.
3rd floor had all the gaming stuff, DDR, etc. since Gamestop was one of the sponsors for the con. Also held the art gallery and a few panel rooms.
Of course its never shocking that anything at a con starts on time but I was kinda surprised to see them delaying the time on when the dealers room was supposed to open. It was to be at 11am and when Dove and I were walking around on the 2nd flr, we noticed a huge ass line and all that time, I kept thinking "OH GOD! Please say that the dealers room isn't that full that they have to wait in line to get in." I heard ppl counting down and realized that the D.Room wasn't even open YET and it was going on noon.
As for panels, I was shocked on that too. There really weren't that many panels going on the whole weekend. At least nothing that I wanted to sit in on only cause half the time, you hear the same shit repeated by the VA's.
The anime selection in the vid rooms wasn't worth seeing cause #1. I've already seen it or #2. didn't appeal to me. They did show Gungrave eps.1, just one eps Fri night but I didn't bother on that either cause by 9:30 I was knocked the fuck out.
So yeah, there really wasn't much to do the rest of Fri. so we ordered Chinese, drank some Tequila Rose, and by 9pm I fell asleep pretty quick. Having an hr and half sleep on Thurs afternoon and not much on Thurs night, it totally caught up to me. God I feel so old just thinking about it but if there is nothing going on, what is a person to really do?
Sat. not much really going on. I think it was 2pm there was a panel in the main ballroom called The Odd Couple which starred Scott McNeil. We had no clue what it was about and apparently, neither did Scott. I guess pretty much it was just a thing for Scott to shine and just chit chat with fans. I'm surprised that the room wasn't packed (the Scott pics I have posted was from that). It was for an hr though we wished it was longer only cause once Scott gets going, you can't get him to stop. Other than that, I believe it was the only thing to really have gone to. Later in the evening we met up with Stella, Jarrod,Lars, Mike, Rach, and a few others for dinner at the Plaza of America's. I wish I would've known to have checked it out earlier cause that would've saved us the shitty expensive delivery Chinese we had on Fri night. The place we ate at was sooo much better and so much cheaper *sigh*. We also sat during the Music Video contest and talk about boooooooooooooooring! There were only a handful of good vids that were worth it, the rest was just lame; too many Eva, Ranma 1/2, and Evanescence songs. The only ones worth it were Devil went down to Georgia done mostly to Hellsing, Gaybar w/various silly clips of anime, My united states of WHATEVER! with Naruto (EXCELLENT EXCELLENT vid), and some silly comedian who was done to clips of Wolfwood.
Later Sat night, Dove and I went to try and see what the outcome of the Hentai-fest line was. Damn dude, there sure are alot of fans out there regarding hentai. I said fuck it, the line was NOT worth standing in especially when I asked what they were showing. Tentacle sex is out of the question for me. I saw enough at Akon '01 to scar me for life. I think the only decent hentai-fest I attended was Ushicon '03 and *gasp!* no tentacle's either!
The concert for Psycho Le Cemu was going strong late Sat night so the peeps that were waiting for the dance to start up, they decided to have a small setup out where the empty artists tables were. Dove and I gave up on it all and went back to the room and not long after, went to bed. Then I heard that the actual dance didn't start till 1 or 2 am O___O cause of the concert still playing so late.
Sun. or should I call that THE DAY FROM HELL!!! Holy shit! I NEVER EVER experienced such a worse day of the last day of the con. As always it was a bitch to get a fucking elevator and once Kelly and I did, I swear if it didn't go to the lobby when it did, I would've either passed out or puked. It was so hot and the jolting of the car when it stopped on the floors was bothering me. Lets just say I wasn't too pleased with the outcome of Sunday and the bullshit before the banquet. Speaking of the banquet, that was THE WORSE one I ever attended. We were a half hr late and when we got to Vic's table, it was already full, looking at each other going "what the fuck!?". IF Akon had done it right, there should've been the right amount of chairs for all those that signed up for said table. There was one empty chair that Opie took, Vic gave me his chair, and someone gave Lucky their's. And THEN Vic didn't even stay there for long before he took off to other tables. The whole thing was a waste of my fucking $28. Hell, I'm surprised that they still had the food out for that little bit of time.
Later we attended the last VA panel and that was the most hilarious thing ever. THIS time someone used their head and wrote a script out for the VA's to act out. I can't remember all VA's that were in that, just what I can recall: Scott was the drunk, Vic was the fanboy, J.Shannon Weaver was the redneck, Sean Schemmel was so fucking hilarious, he would read his script in a Christopher Walken voice. Then when they had Q&A's the subject about what they thought of sub snobs who turn their nose away from dubs. I applaud everyone's thoughts and comments on the topic. I'll just leave it at that. Then after it was over and ppl were filing out, Michael Coleman walked by and Opie talked to him for a bit. Got hugs from him and since he's such a cute short guy (WOW! Someone my height!) I asked if I could lift him up and was so funny to have his feet off the ground. Not long after, we finally left the con and that was that.
I won't label what is pro, con, etc, I'll just try to put it all together for it to make sense.
Aside from where the con was at this yr, I really wasn't very too pleased with the con itself. I really don't know why nor can I place my finger on it. I think that the con was just too focused on the bands than anything else. Which I'm sure is okay for some, I for one could give a rats ass. From what we saw televised of the Cosplay show Sat night, sucked ass as always. Will there ever be one that will NOT suck???!!! And WOW! The cosplay started on time and ended quite quickly I thought.
You would also think that for the amount of elevators this hotel had, that it still wouldn't be so backed up but then again I'm just asking for too much. It also doesn't help when the fucking hotel is telling you that YOU CAN NOT USE THE STAIRS! They even went as far as locking part of the stairwells, which sounds illegal to me. IF those assholes would've allowed ppl to use the stairs, there would've been less of a hassle with the elevators to begin with.
I got more gripes somewhere but I can't think of them all. This has definitely made me stick to my plan of this most likely being my last Akon. Next yr, I want to focus on other cons in different states, but it all depends on guests and such. Hell, feel free to invite me to any parties going on, I'm sure those would be better than the con itself anyways.
I can only hope that AnimeFest will be much better considering their lineup.
The one thing that shocked me regarding Scott and the con staff, was that they FINALLY let him breath and spend as much time with the fans as he wanted (that is if he didn't have a panel to go to which wasn't many). The staff weren't hovering over him either which was a blessing. Speaking of Scott,
guardianhunter, he actually brought your name up. I'll have to tell ya about it next time I'm around or your around to chat.
Regarding cosplayers, I was sooooooooooooooooo happy to see some dressed from Scrapped Princess. The Racquel girl was handing out little home made soupy-kun pastries. That was way adorable and they even told me that there was a Soupy-kun, I do believe was with them but I never got the chance to see it.
And Dove can vouch for me on how we acted when we saw a Souchirou Nagi from Tenjo Tenge. And we saw a few decent black guys who would've made a great Bob, hair and all. Just about all weekend we'd see Nagi and at those times, I wished I cosplayed as Aya *lol* K, I'm over my fangirl moment now ^_~
The chef Wolfwood, as soon as I saw him walk by, I never laughed so hard on seeing a costume. That was original hehehehehehehe and a pretty decent Wolfwood to boot.
Just a run down of what few things I bought::
The 3rd set of the Naruto capsule figures
Sasuke and Sakura pencil board (waaaaaaaay cute!!!)
Witch Hunter Robin dvd 4
Trigun manga 1&2
Legend of Basara manga 2,3,5 (already had 1&6) though I still need #4.
Trigun doujinshi that has a HOT ASS Wolfwood pic on the cover. Only reason why I bought it though I'm going to sell it. Since the package was sealed, I didn't want to ask to open it to check the book out. So needless to say, our prediction was right on what the book was about; Wolfwood and Vash *shudders* Bye Bye dj, you were nice to oggle the cover at, too bad you disappointed me.
I bought 3 pieces of art and a commission, though I'll get to posting those tomorrow.
Wardove got me a Gungrave pencil board as a gift *squeeeeeeeees*
Bandai's booth had pretty nice Wolf's Rain posters they had for free to take.
I was wanting to get Last Exile dvd 3 but I found the prices were still a bit too steep. I'll just have to catch up on getting that when I have money or my bday next month.
I waited to do most of my shopping on Sunday, the majority with my WHR dvd and the manga's were discounted at a decent rate so I might as well snag it.
Just bits and pieces about voice actors and anime::
Vic Mignogna will voice Ed Elric from Full Metal Alchemist
J. Shannon Weaver will be Ginji from Getbackers. (he's also done Kenshin in Samurai X)
It was great seeing everyone again those that were in my room and those that I normally see that come down here. Getting to meet
kelroni's chibi. She's a good kid for her age, that is unless she was only putting on an act for us Kel ^_~
Also to have finally met
shira and Dan,
fangirlsdelight,
utdrd,
engelosu. Sorry that we never got to meet up
mockingbirdq, if you get a chance to see this. I tried to get in my yahoo account but the lameass internet in the hotel room wouldn't allow us to access certain sites. So I didn't have your # in my cell phone to call you.
Oooookay, I think that was all I could remember to jot down. Now onto the pics.
Akon pics
Please let me know if the link or a pic doesn't work. Also if someone wants to photoshop my tats or the scratch off the other arm, feel free to do so and let me know so you can send them my way.
Just so ppl know and can get a grip on just WHO I was dressed as, I was Tsunade the 5th Hokage from Naruto. I think the reason Dove and I acted the way we did cause we didn't think that anyone would be dressed from TT yet or have seen it. Every time I saw him near us or walking by, I'd point it out to Dove "I wanna hump his side." *lol*
That would be funny to see him as Bob. What was his reaction?
I'm glad the Tsunade costume turned well. >^.^<
Thanx to you for the help on roughly what her top was made from. The only thing I'd like to have or focus on is getting her robe made before Afest in Sept. And then seeing if I have to add those dark strips on her top.
