Keep in mind that since nothing really went on during the con, I still find a way to write ALOT of stuff. So feel free to skim over things or if you brave it enough to read my babble, I commend you!
Cosplay pics, go to the AnimeFest '04 folders. I have one on just the VA's and the sights of downtown Dallas I took from the hotel window and a folder for the Naruto cosplay.
Enjoy!

Just something about it this yr was weird. Not quite sure what it was aside from the usual group of friends not being there and I really don’t think by having it a different hotel made it any weirder either.
For Friday, slow day as usual. I keep forgetting that kids are still in school till the end of the day. Morning panel was Brianne Siddall, Chris Patton, and Johnny Young Bosh. First time for Brie to do a con so she was trying to get a feel of it. Johnny seems kinda shy/bashful but there are times you can get him into a talking mood. And Chris, is well. . . . Chris *snickers*
After the panel, headed to the dealers room. Sucks that money was tight but I also know that if I knew I had more to spend, the more I really wouldn’t need what I bought. Was able to finally get the Gungrave Backyard artbook (focuses on the anime this time) and has some decent art pics in the beginning. *yum* In fact, this table had both the Backyard and the GG Overdose material book. Both books seem to be in equal thickness but the GGOD was a bit more than the anime book. Thought I might as well snag the Backyard book while I could since they are still a bit hard to find online without having to order from Japan and then pay the outrageous shipping prices. At the con all I had to do was pay sales tax. Found a Tsunade pin from Naruto, I haven’t seen any yet online unless I missed something but thought it was cute and had to have it in my collection. (How could I not? ^_~) Wasn’t crazy about the price for it but oh well. So the two artbooks and the pin and I was near broke for anime spending. I had to keep a little bit back so I can have money towards the GGOD PS2 game. Believe me, that was really hard NOT to spend, especially since there was so many cute Full Metal Alchemist and Naruto stuffs.
The one table had all their manga’s 20% off, which sucked cause I’m sooooooooooooo far behind on my manga buying. *pulls hair*
Manga list:
Fruits Basket 3-4
Hellsing 3
Naruto 4
Trigun Maximum 1-2
Also would still like to finish what small collection of dvds I need:
Hellsing 2-3
Last Exile – anything after the 2nd
Witch Hunter Robin – 5&6
Plus add on to the list now the new series I started up:
Wolf’s Rain
Gungrave
Signed myself up at Funimation’s table to get your name drawn to win stuff. Checked back later and my name was there!!! WOOO! If I keep this up, the last time I won was 2 yrs ago, and since I really won’t be going to any cons till 2 more yrs, maybe luck can be on my side. This has also been helping me collect the Fruits Basket dvds. Thank god for that considering the price they want for them (though considering the amount of eps you get on it, I suppose its worth it). I already picked out #3 when I won 2yrs ago at Akon, this time I wanted the eps when Tohru has her friends over and Kyo, Shigure, and Yuki had a hard time staying in their human form since they were always bumping into someone. The girl was nice enough to let me know which eps, so I got the 1st dvd. Now all I need is #2 and #4 and I’m set ^______________^
Later in the afternoon, sat in another panel that had a few VA’s, one of them being Beau Billingslea. Was pretty cool to finally see, hear, and meet the guy who’s done voices that you know or like. He did a Ross Periot impression later which was too damn funny. Not only that but James Earl Jones ain’t shit compared to how I feel Beau’s voice is.
After the panel, went to meet up with Opie so we could just ride share to the hotel instead of having both our cars there. Fri. overall was just a slow day.
Fri night we were on the 2nd floor area where the lounges and places to chill were and bullshitted for a bit while ppl watching or those that we still saw in costume and come up with a freaky story for everything that we gathered. Opie later called Vic Mignogna and he then came down to talk and played on the piano that was near us. Still can’t quite get that Hello Kitty song he made for the series out of my head (only to find out the next day that ADV couldn’t use it). Was still cute and catchy though. It was funny cause Vic and I got into a discussion about FMA (for those that don’t know, Vic will be Ed’s voice), what eps we have watched (he on 41 and me on 46 at the time, in which he was like “uh! lucky you!”) He’s a total fanboy over this, which is cute to see an older man act like that (though in some ways, you can’t blame the guy)
Went to bed around 11:30, probably the only night I had decent sleep. *whimpers*
Saturday: still nothing really going on. The morning was the Cowboy Bebop VA panel with Steve Blum and Beau. Steve is one of those voices who I'd want to say "whisper dirty things in my ear, you stud you!" (same goes with Brian Drummond too *swoooooooooons*) I wished in some ways, I would’ve lugged my big ass camcorder with me to have taped it. Steve and Beau were great going back and forth as Spike and Jet, they totally loved those characters (out of everything that they’ve done with their work). Their speaking voices are just like what you hear of Spike and Jet, same with Johnny Bosh too (a calm Vash and Kiba really). After the panel is when they would have the signings. Beau seemed pretty happy with signing something from Gungrave for me since it still seems like the series is unheard of by many. Didn’t have anything for Steve to sign since I left my Wolf’s Rain stuff in the room so I just had him sign my program booklet. I had to laugh to myself when Steve complimented me in my Tsunade costume. Almost reminded me of Scott’s reaction to me in that costume as well at Akon *snerks*
I also found this out during the panel too. Someone asked Steve about all those pseudo names out there on the net. He was quite surprised as well when he stumbled across that online. He said that he’s only went by two names, Steve Blum and David Lucas, anything other than that, is not him. Though he did say how there is another voice actor out there that does sound similar to him, hence why ppl always thinks it’s him. So that means he didn’t do Balladbird Lee’s voice on Gungrave like we thought he did. I even asked him about it during the signing since I was wondering why he would never mention Gungrave whereas Beau did. (for those that don’t know, Beau is Bear Walken’s voice).
Holy shit! You should’ve seen the line for the registration too all day Sat.
Just walked around a bit to find something to do. They didn’t have too bad of a selection of anime they were showing, I just didn’t feel like sitting in those warm rooms. Then around 6pm, a bunch of us all gathered for a Naruto photoshoot outside. Nice little turn out, in fact, I think Naruto was probably the most cosplayed out of those that did dress up. Aside from the fact that the con was not very full all weekend but I also think too that still not many were cosplaying, hence why my pics consist of so little or mostly on Naruto.
Later Sat. night after we got back from eating,
telophase (thanx again for rooming with me!) told us about the room party that was mentioned to her so we just hung around in the lounge area till a certain time and then made our way to it. I pretty much fucked myself over by not eating properly or enough all weekend AND not drinking enough water like I should have. Reason being. . . . . I was sooooooooooooooooooooooo trashed come Sun morning. I only had a long island iced tea before we went to the party room and then two nice sized White Russians once we showed up. I wasn’t overly drunk-drunk, it just made me feel really shitty in the morning.
telophase went back to our room around 2am, Opie went back around 4am, and I stayed up till 6am, just talking away to those that were still in the party room.
Sunday:I haven’t felt that hung-over in a loooooooooooooooooooooooooong time and then I realized just why I don’t care too much for drinking anymore. I hate the feeling. So I slept in till around 10am and being hungry which I had a feeling that no matter what I ate, it wasn’t going to stay down, and I was right. Puked about 3 times total and all cause I tried to eat something. It sucked so bad and I didn’t want to just fill myself up with water and then get sick from that too. And why is it, when you are feeling your shitiest, you crave for the weirdest food, that would only make you more sick cause of the grease? I was craving a Sourdough Jack from Jack in the box. So I laid back down, hoping to get some more sleep or just let my body calm down a bit. Considering there wasn’t even hardly anything going on Sunday either, I was in no hurry to head back down to the con. Woke Opie up around 2pm, I got back into my Tsunade costume and boy did I feel like I was living her lifestyle, still hung over and groggy. ^_~
Later we got food and was happy that I was able to keep it down. We then decided to sit through the. . . . . cosplay *shudders*. For the past 4yrs now, I STILL have yet to sit through a cosplay and be pleased with it. Its not so much with the skits or what have you but the damn MC’s were just blatting and blatting on and on and it was like saying “SHUT THE HELL UP AND GET ON WITH THE DAMN SHOW!” It started at 7 and didn’t end till 10:30 and really, that was uncalled for considering that there wasn’t a huge amount of ppl who signed up to do the show. It also seems that Afest doesn’t have rules or set times as to how long a skit can be compared to Akon’s where you have only 2 mins to do your thing. There were some skits at Afest that seemed to NEVER END! Yet I endured it all since there was nothing else to do. Once that was done, I headed over to the art auction to sit with
telophase and Opie, waiting for
telophase last piece of art to go on sale. Headed back to the room afterwards before we went back over to the party room again. This time, no drinky drinky for me. Was kinda dead at first and I was nearly falling asleep but the same staff peeps that were there before conversed with me on their thoughts of the lame ass, long as hell cosplay and other gripes I like to hear. I was too lazy to change out of my costume so I was still as Tsunade. Later on is when the flood just came in, almost a packed room, loud chatting, drinks spilt, your usual party time atmosphere. Thought it was cool that a few VA’s stopped by, got to chat and just hang with Greg Ayres
bam2 and Mike McFarland for awhile. Still love that dj’ing idea you have for Neko-Con next yr Greg, sounds like it would be awesome. Just that little bit of time hanging with Greg, I do believe it would be blast just chilling out, he's my kind of person I usually associate myself with.
Between being really tired and still recovering from the hangover, I was ready to just call it a night, plus with so many ppl in the room made it really hot and I don’t like feeling uncomfortable like that, especially since I wasn’t feeling all that great. Went to back to the room around 3am and crashed hard. Opie didn’t even get back till 6am.
Monday: was just a lot of hustling, getting stuff packed, getting the bellhop to come up and get our stuff, check out, load the car, and THEN make it in time for the last VA signings.
While Opie and I were in line, we were pretty close to the speaker when they were saying about going down the row of VA’s and have them say a fav. line or such from any of their characters. Johnny was first and I kept shouting “love & peace!” So he did that but I should’ve told him that he had to do that Vash pose while saying it *lol*. Then the real kicker was him yelling as Kiba saying “CHEZA!” *sniffles*. It may have been loud and right there at our ears but it was awesome. Had Johnny sign Wardove’s WR poster and then he told us about his band Eyeshine. He's a really good singer (just kinda picture Kiba singing *lol*). You can hear reg. small sound clips and then the "garage" sound. Plus if you go in the video section, you can see them perform. My fav. songs so far is Not Really Good and Waterfall. I also got a kick out of Johnny's bio section. Wish they would have more time and money to get at least one cd out, I'd love to have it.
While we were waiting for the line to move (thank god not many ppl were there for it), I asked Mike McFarland, not for me to sound like a dork and questioned who the one girl was that I never saw before. Found out it was Catlin, the voice for Winry on FMA. She was only there to visit a friend and was pulled in to sit on a panel that weekend and thought it was cool to have her sign stuff too. Got some of my FMA freebies signed by her that had Winry on them. A real nice sweet girl, I think she’ll do a good job with Winry. Vic also told Opie and I on Sat that he heard the boy who does Al was at the con visiting and he wanted to meet him but didn’t even know what the kid looked like. And yes, Al is voiced by a 12yr old boy.
The last to get stuff signed by was Steve Blum. I got to talking to him about if it was his 1st time in Dallas and if they were able to go out and see anything. Sadly they couldn't and were holed up in the hotel (aside from them taking them out to eat Sat night). I felt bad cause hell, if you aren't going to use the VA's for anything and they have free time, take them out and show them around, damn! Beau already left Sat night so I was unable to get him to sign the WR poster. Though I got a giggle for what Steve signed on it. I also told Steve my thoughts about how well I think they really put their time and effort into voicing Wolf's Rain. He was very touched by my comment and said he'll make sure to tell the woman he knew that worked on getting it set up (forget her name but it sounds like he's worked with her alot) about what I said since she'd be pleased to hear it.
So that pretty much summed up the whole weekend since we left about an hr or so after the signings.
My thoughts overall about the con this yr is this::
Unless someone corrects me but as far as I know, they didn't even have the dance this yr which was really, really odd.
And from what I see on my schedules that I still have handy, I didn't even see any of those Anime Match games and such either this yr like they normally do.
This yr, the con seemed smaller, not so much of the hotel space, but it didn't seem like that many ppl there than what I'm used to seeing.
Afest is still good for a small con but just for some reason, something felt off kilter and I still can't place what it was. Though I still wished that my usual group of peeps could've been here for it.
I really don't know about what I'll be able to go to next yr since vacation time and money will be short or taken up. Pending on who all might come next yr, to Afest that is, I might go for a day but not the whole weekend. I also don't think that Afest is worth getting a hotel, especially since I'm close to the area now. Plus I realized that its not even worth getting the whole weekend pass since it seems like you only really need it for the dealers room. A one day pass would suit me fine. So it also depends on what kind of guests they get next yr, I might still go but not stay.
I think though that for not going to any cons next yr will do me good. That way I can be refreshed for 2006 cons and where ever I choose to go to that yr.
See, I told ya I was going to write alot of stuff.

Yeah OZ character fics are really hard to come by like how they use to be (and I'm not talking about the yaoi that was out there either). Its good to still see a few write about them.

It's amazing that you could get so up-close-and-personal with some of the VAs. I usually don't pay much attention to VAs because I don't know many to begin with (my fault), but considering the amount of fun you were having maybe I should change my ways ^_~
The photos were great, especially the Naruto cosplay ones! I love the group shots.
Overall, it sounds like you had lots of fun, despite the points of criticism. Thanks for sharing!
BTW -- speaking of animé goods, I don't know if this interests you, but apparently there's "Tenjou Tenge" calendar for 2005. My only problem is I can't seem to pinpoint the webpage I originally saw mention of it.

Made me feel like I was there as well ^_^
Thats good to hear!
It's amazing that you could get so up-close-and-personal with some of the VAs.
It takes some nerves cause not only are you nervous but the VA is too on getting to know a fan. I felt like a babbling dork when I first talked to Johnny and then was nervous but then felt at ease talking to Steve. My heard was pounding so damn fast, I'm sure my face was red.
The one VA that is pretty much an all around friendly guy who takes the time for anyone is Scott McNeil.
Glad ya liked the pics, I was quite impressed myself on the Naruto peeps there. And for ONCE I was able to participate in the photoshoot since I missed out on it at Akon.
EEEEEEEEEEEP! A Tenjou Tenge calendar??!! *faints* I'd looooooooooove to see that one. Keep me informed once you find the place you saw it at. I haven't had an anime calendar to use in over a yr. My last one was the only FMP calendar they made for '02.

Click bottom-left for the TT one. (Yes, there's also a Naruto one.)
Just to summarize, it's poster size, consists of 7 pages, comes in a case, and costs 2000 yen in Japan. You have until Oct 31st to preorder and the calendar will be in stores on December 3rd.
Now here's the catch -- this calendar is NOT available with all those other animé calendars that are usually available via various online animé shops. Those are apparently published by a specialized calendar company, while the TT one is published directly by Shueisha. You will need to find a North American animé store that can order calendars not on that "other" big list. (If they ask, apparently these calendars are available through bookstores and "Animate" stores in Japan.) Also, my sister has ordered one of these calendars before and she says that you must preorder in order to ensure that you get one.
If you can't find a North American store, you can order it through Amazon Japan:

Hope that helps!
