Sorry for slacking on updating the pics to the Japanese covers. I also realized while looking back in the past entries that I didn't even make a post regarding the 1st one so I'm just adding it in here and for good reason too.
The 1st dvd cover:

Did anyone else notice that we were jipped on the cover for the US release? Why did they take off the pic of Brandon and Harry? Yet the pic with Grave is the same. *scratches head*
#7:

#8:

With all these really nice covers for the dvds, I don't think that the US releases will be able to use all of them since the Japanese dvds have between 2-3 eps each on theirs, their set will be much bigger and longer than what the US will be. As stated before, there will be a total of 7 dvds for the US, where as already Japan is up to 8 and that covers eps. 15 and 16.

The good thing about Geneon is that they're pretty nice about extras, so we might get a gallery of Japanese DVD art in one of the future volumes. I think that's what they did for "Heatguy-J" anyhow.
I often question the decisions US companies make about DVD covers too. Referring back to "Heatguy-J" again, the Japanese releases had some very cool and stylish retro-looking cover art created specifically for the DVDs, but I don't think they used any of them for the US releases. They used some more cliché-looking images instead. The cover is meant to sell the product, so it baffles me as to why they would choose something that is lesser in design.
And don't get me started on the Japanese GW DVD boxes...

Pretty neat, it has Harry's men in their "superior" form, the ones they are in when they fight Grave.
Now the 1st box that has the art that the US release has with their's, in Japan, they call that a "half box" (makes sense). The one above must be that other half *lol*

That would be neat. In fact, I just saw the cover for the 2nd GG dvd and they are keeping the art they used here. BUT because of the lesser dvds we are getting in the US, we are going to miss out on some really good covers that the Japanese used. They skip 2 cover sleeves by the time US dvd #3 comes out. Not to confuse you as I explain my meaning::
The US cover for #3 will be what they used for Japanese cover #5. Check out the links I saved in my gungrave community memory section and click the links that I posted the covers too and you'll see which ones we'll be missing here
I'm just glad that for Wolf's Rain, they are keeping that neat art deco on the US covers.

Oh I noticed that too regarding the cliche'ed images on some covers we get and then you feel jipped when you see the original japanese covers.
OMG! I saw the Japanese GW dvd pics and my jaw hit the floor. Yet we get kinda lame pics for our covers.

That's right! I forgot about the "Wolf's Rain" dvd covers.
Now that I think of it, Bandai is doing a rather good job of keeping original dvd art. This goes back to your talk about our "lesser DVDs", but for their release of "Argento Soma" they compensated for this by having double-sided cover art sheets. So, our volume 3 comes with the cover art for probably what was the cover art for the Japanese volume 6 & 7.
Yeah, the GW DVD box art is gorgeous. (Again, more Art Deco/Art Nouveau style material.) Apparently when they first came out, the covers caught the attention of some design magazines in Japan which until then had absolutely nothing to do with animé.

I think that for the most part, now a days, these companies are using their heads to use the original Japanese art covers. I know they kept that for the FMP! covers (shocking)
Just wish that Bandai would offer a new change of covers for the GW dvds, but then again if they re-issued those dvds just for that, I'd be pissed or they should allow those who have the dvds to do a trade in. *lol*
