I'm glad she brought this up cause I noticed a change in the animation while watching the 2nd dvd when it came out (at least what I saw of Brandon). I was going to say something awhile back but didn't cause I didn't want to feel as if I was the only one who saw it or thinking that I was seeing things. I'll work on capping the pic this weekend of the part I noticed that they cleaned up from the fansub to the dvd.

Anyways, check out the HUGE clean up that Geneon did for Gungrave compared to what they showed us on the fansubs. My mind is still boggled at the change, which is a change for the better. But I'm wondering how companies are allowed to do that and not only that but how do they do it? (do the Japanese change it later or do the US side of things take charge of it?)

HERE are a few example pics.

Oops, I meant to post it here. :O

Recently, japanese companies been know to do that for their DVD releases, gives you more 'unf' for your buck!(Although, I wish Geneon got ahold of Yami no Mastuei then instead of CPM. >_>)

Some content on this (http://twenty.byus.net/zboard/zboard.php?id=heatguyj) little korean site here, compares this girl's Heat Guy J DVDs to the TV broadcasts.

In the case of animated TV shows in Japan, the first two or so episodes of a series are really well animated and the quality drops off considerably afterwards, only to be improved noticeably again for key episodes. I think these fluctuations in image quality occur because of time constraints. Sometimes the production company will clean-up or re-do some of the original TV broadcast footage for the official release. I unfortunatly don't know if such is the case for Gungrave, but I do know that that is what was done for Heatguy J. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the reason behind the differences you are noticing.

Woah!

Talk about clean up!

I like the cleanup version better than the fansubs. Though it still makes me wonder if the reason why they cleaned it up afterwards was due to budget constraints during the original airing of the shows...

Interesting indeed. I didn't know they'd did stuff like that to eps before they did the offical release to buy. I'm glad to see this change for the better with GG. Its less dark/shadows and their eyes are much more expressive/filled out.

Though the one that does still boggle my mind is why they showed us the edited scenes regarding Brandon's demise in the elevator compared to what we see on the dvd. (Though I'm sure that the japanese release on dvd might have given their ppl the same uncut stuff).

Re: Woah!

Its pretty neat to see stuff like this cleaned up. I think it totally gave GG a very nice facelift. That would be odd if that were the case of their budget constraint when it came to the original airing before going back and fixing it up better. Though no complaints here, thats for sure.
