After watching the recent dvd makes me realize just how much I love this series. There are very few animes that can really capture my attention to the point of grabbing me by the throat and not letting go.
I love Gungrave but it's a series that I can not go back and watch repeatedly. Reason being is that I can only hack emotional series for so long in one sitting. No matter how many times I watch this series, it always chokes me up. I can watch a certain scene umpteen times and STILL have tears in my eyes.
I like all the eps but I tend to have a slight fascination with the ones when Grave first shows up along with seeing the GREAT (not Big) 4 in their Superior forms. I adore Mika even more, not sure if its cause the dub isn't quite as whiny as the Japanese voice or what. The girl has been through so much in so little time, I can't help but want to hug her to death and I liked her more in Gungrave Overdose, she's grown up to be a very strong young woman. Only cause I haven't gone back and watched GG over and over of the subs before the dvds came out, I forgot what all was going to be on the upcoming eps, #5th release is the start of the badassness. (if that is not a word, yay for me for making it up) :p
In #17 "Mika", I always liked the mother and daughter relationship with Maria and Mika. My love for Maria has grown even stronger too. Mika's badgering of what Brandon was to Maria made me smile, same goes when Mika was badgering Grave about Maria. The eps started the tears already. *sighs* It's also in this eps where you can truly feel for Bear. He still seems hesitant of things that have been going on but of course, he can't back down only cause of his love for his daughter. I wonder though if Sherry didn't get involved with Harry, if Bear would've thought differently of everything that Harry has done. I'm already getting misty eyed just thinking of the upcoming eps during the Bear & Grave fight.
#18 "Grave" - Though this is part of the repeat that we seen in eps.1, I dig the action scenes with Grave taking down the Orcs.
#19 "Superior" - Always liked the battle of the bulge errr.....I mean, the battle with Bob *lol*.
#20 "Brother" - The PWNED! eps *snerks* aka. the beat down Grave gave to Bunji. So seeing Grave's emotions while he's punching Bunji was a tug on the heart string. I love the annoyed expression Bunji had on his face when Mika wouldn't leave him alone.
Shut up, your giving me a headache
- *tsk* damn kid
- Why me?
- I'm surrounded by morons
- I'm not crying, big boys don't cry. *lol*
There was something else that I really didn't grasp till now. Near the end when Mika is looking at Grave while he's hooked to the machine and says:
Mika: On that day, I think I actually heard him cry. It was a really awful sound, such a sad and powerful voice, so full of pain. Just like an animal's cry and thats when it started snowing.
All that time during the fansubs, I thought she meant that she could hear him crying inwardly to himself, the way that Maria could hear Brandon's thoughts w/out saying anything. But now as I watch that clip, Mika is talking about how she heard him cry out loud, "on that day" is referring to when he was beating up Bunji. Which would only make sense if you listen to his anguish each time he draws his fist back for another punch. *tips the geek hat*
Though aside from that, EEEEEEEE!!!! the Brandon and Maria flashback *flails arms & whimpers* Oh yes, the fangirl in me will make a separate entry just on that part with caps and dialog. :p :p :p
I swear to god
scarbie, by watching these recent dvds of #4 and #5, the bunnies are nearly chewing my foot off for that fic idea. Perhaps once the last dvd comes out in July, I can start on it.
Thoughts on the dub regarding dvd 5:
- Lee's crazy laugh is actually pretty good. I'm glad to see that he tried to get it like the Japanese voice.
- I'd rather like the group to be called the Great 4 not the Big 4. Using Great to describe the group gives it more meaning.
- Hmmm....I swore Bunji used the word "brother" throughout the series to call Grave/Brandon and not "big guy". Can't recall what was used in the fansubs (not on the dvds) but "big guy" just didn't seem right.

Since a few more ppl on my flist and the community have joined, allow me to bring this up again.
Yeah, I'm going to have a slight attitude about this, *shrugs* oh well.
When the 1st dvd came out, quite a few of us thought that Lee was voiced by Spike from Bebop. I hate to burst any bubbles but its not true. I don't care what voice listing sites say, my source came from the horses mouth himself. I can provide his contact info that was listed on the back of his resume he was passing out at the con.
Andrew Watton is not Steve Blum/David Lucas. If you listen closely to Steve's voice and Andrew's voice, you can tell the distinction. It is freaky how they do sound alike but they are not the same person.
I was at the panel when the topic was brought up at AnimeFest '04 when they had Steve Blum and Beau Billingslea as the main guests at the con. During the panel, a girl brought up to them about them using different names. (and I'm glad she did cause I was going to ask Steve why he didn't mention Gungrave when they were going through their list that they done.;P Beau did however bring up Gungrave when he was listing his titles).
Steve was relieved she asked that question cause he couldn't figure out just WHERE or WHY ppl were saying he did voices for characters or series that he never done before. He did admit that he went by one other name and that was David Lucas (he used that name for the Bebop movie and when he voiced Onizuka in GTO and of course lots more). Almost kinda reminds me when one time someone asked Scott McNeil about "the ocean group". Some of ya's will know what I'm talking about that one yr at Afest. *laughs*
But Steve did do voices for Gungrave, which is for the Gungrave Overdose game as the dub voice for Bunji, Zele, and Fangoram. Wished I would've known that sooner but it wouldn't have done me any good since GGOD came out a few weeks after Afest.
For the hell of it, here is the link to the pics I took at Afest and the voice actors:

As for the tv news::
G4 (Formerly G4TechTV) has announced its upcoming series for Anime Unleashed.
New episodes of Gungrave will premiere on May 2nd.
The first 12 episodes of Gungrave will each air during the week prior to the premieres of the new episodes.
I know I said this before when G4 first aired GG but I'll have to say it again. As much as I like the idea that they are showing GG on tv, I can't stand watching ANYTHING on G4. I NEVER seen a channel that is more focused on the commercials than anything else. It also irks me that they cut dialog out from the series just so they can make it fit the time frame its supposed to air. If they cut back on the fucking commercials, they wouldn't have to edit their anime so much.
But I am glad that Adult Swim isn't airing GG. There is SO much wankery in regards to the anime they do show, especially with FMA and Inuyasha fandom (hell just about every fandom now a days), it drives me fucking batty!!

And thats it for my fangirl geekyness for the day. :p

I wonder though if Sherry didn't get involved with Harry, if Bear would've thought differently of everything that Harry has done.
Hahaha, if Harry wasn't involved with Sherry the series would have been much, shorter. Bear would have offed Harry so fast it wouldn't been funny. When Randy was killed you know Bear suspected Harry of setting him up but couldn't really do anything about it because of Sherry. Bear was the most critical person he had to win over. It's nice to know that he genuinely respected and cared about Bear though.
Always liked the battle of the bulge errr.....I mean, the battle with Bob *lol*.
*ROFL* That was a good episode. I always cringe when he starts pulling the orc men out of his body!
#20 "Brother" - The PWNED! eps *snerks* aka. the beat down Grave gave to Bunji.
That's a great way to describe that episode. Everyone that's seen it would know exactly what you were talking about. For me that's one of the funniest but at the same time one of the saddest episodes. Poor Bunji when Mika was hassling him.
- I'm not crying, big boys don't cry. That really made me laugh. Bunji was a sensitive dude beneath that rough exterior.
*tips the geek hat* *lol* I think I must have a couple of those. But that's a good point, Beck. I'm glad you cleared that up because I was thinking that Mika was referring to Grave's inner voice too.
Yeah, I'm going to have a slight attitude about this, *shrugs* oh well.
I felt like I was going crazy when I heard that voice. And when I checked IMDB and saw all those names listed, I thought, "That explains things!" That website isn't always the most reliable (said Dave Chapelle was doing a voice in MGS3 *lol*) and you definitely can't beat the horse's mouth when it comes to info.
When you think about it, July isn't that far away. I'm sure your story is going to be a good one. I've enjoyed your other GG fics and I know this one will be even more detailed.

I'm sure Harry had a feeling that Bear was against the things he did but since Bear stayed loyal all this time, he knew he was in good hands.
YES! I'm not sure if it was the game that freaked me out first or seeing it actually animated when Bob had those creatures popping out of him.
I also just realized the time twist they did. The scientist, Bear, and Bob were discussing about the Orcs when Bob had that sudden burst he couldn't control just yet of his powers. Then later, it shows Lee threatening the doc saying he better save Bob's life and how the doc rec'ed the Superior for Bob. It made it seem as if Bob was a Superior first, and THEN was nearly dying. I think they should've just had the dying part first THEN show Bob was made into a superior.
hehehehe yea, that is a great title to call eps 20. it suits it so well. Bunji is quite the character. He could've been a heartless bastard and killed Mika but since it was personal against Grave, he didn't seem to care about her. THOUGH if it came down to it, I'm sure he could kill her without really thinking too hard on it. But then again, I don't see him being a child killer (ummm....except he did kill that guy and his family when he took over True Grave but I think he went overboard on that cause at the time, he was trying to relieve his agression of Brandon being killed/a traitor).
You know what a would be a good comedy fic. If Bunji had to watch over Mika.
Bunji: What do I look like, a fucking babysitter?!
Jump to GGOD. Jyuji and Mika are the only ones in the truck while Grave and RB went wherever.
Jyuji: What do I look like, a fucking babysitter?! (even though he did make the babysitter comment in the game *lol*)
Mika: *laughs* Thats funny Mr. Kabane. Mr. Kugashira said the same thing to me a few yrs ago.
J: (even though we can't see it) *blinkblink* You knew my brother?
Mika: I see the attitude runs in the family.
Yeah, ain't that some shit regarding Mika hearing Grave? It is weird how it did make it seem like that was what she meant in the subs but after she said about hearing him cry and it started to snow, it then flashbacked to when she was on Grave's back crying for him to stop.
That website isn't always the most reliable
So it seems, I heard alot of flack about it too that their shit was wrong on many occasions.
There are also some short pieces I'd like to write with Brandon and Harry, mostly during their younger days but I'm trying to pinpoint just what kind of topic.
