First off, for those that didn't see it nor the pics from the write up about Yucatan, you can find it here.
I'll do my best on trying to recall everything at Cozumel.
Seems like a good bit of ppl got off the boat for this place. The gaggle of ppl standing in the areas for the different excursions was O___O. Once we got our papers filled out and our group together, we headed over to where we had to get in taxis to the scuba diving area.
Once we arrived, we were herded into a small room where one of the instructors gave a brief lesson about a bunch of stuff for scubaing. After that, we went outside to get fitted for our gear and paired up with one of the instructors.
The whole gear setup was awkward, especially for my 5'2 frame. We were in a group of 4 and once we got in the water, we had to practice using our air respirators. We had to adjust ourselves to them by TRYING to breath normally but its a bit harder than one thinks. Sometimes it felt that you were trying to take in too much air, I'm sure ppl hyperventilate with these things, wouldn't surprise me one bit. You have to get used to breathing that way or you wouldn't be allowed to dive. The other couple, the wife couldn't get used to it so she had to sit off to the side to wait for us while we went in the water.
This was the excursion that fucked up my right ear. It wasn't so bad at first but once we swam deeper, is when I couldn't get my ear to pop right. I think I spent the majority of the scubaing worrying about my ear than looking at the fish. Granted I did see some awesome beautiful fish and such but I wished the situation would've been better for me. I would've been fine if I were allowed to stay closer to the top of the water but the instructor kept telling me to come down to their level and I kept pointing at my ear letting him know I was having problems. In which he just shook it off and motioned for me to catch up since we were nearing the end.
Scubaing can be a fun thing to do but this was my first and last time I will ever do that. I wasn't comfortable breathing like that and the whole ear thing completely ruined the experience for me.
Sorry, no pics from the scuba cause the beginners weren't allowed to take pics.
After we turned in our gear (the area was above a small open restaurant), we went upstairs to get our certificate and wait on getting a cab to go back to the area where the shopping section and where the boat was docked. Bubba saw these two girls that looked familiar to him so he went up and asked if they were so and so. And it turned out they were and told us what they wanted to go see next. So he asked me what I thought about going and agreed. This is when we went to the area of Chankanaab National Park where the dolphins were at.
We got to the park and paid for the Dolphin Experience which ours didn't start till around 3. Since we got there around 1, we checked out the area where the beach was and then went to a neat hut type open restaurant for lunch. The beach, the view, and the water was just BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!! I can not stress enough on how pretty it was. Pics do NOT do it justice, you have to see it for yourself. For those that didn't know, this area of Mexico is called the Western Caribbean hence why the water looks so blue.
We went into the water for a little and this was when bubba took a few pics with the water camera. You'll see just how close the tropical fish are swimming right next to you, whether they be big or little fish, it was awesome. I wished we had more time to look around on the beach and the water but we were strapped for time.
We made our way over to the dolphin area to get our snorkels and get fitted for our vests. Before we went to the platform, they were taking pics of each person in the group with the parrots the two employees had. Such beautiful birds too and they were so cute to watch on the stuff that they had the birds do or pose for the pics. They would actually put the bird either on your arm, shoulder, head, or cradle it like a baby. When we got our pic taken, they were going to put bubba's bird on his shoulder but since he was sunburnt so bad, he told them to put it on his arm. Mine was on my arm too and as odd as this may sound, they are actually a heavy bird. I thought they would've been lighter in weight.
So once our group was together, we went out to the pier and down into the water where we stood on this grated platform as we waited for the dolphins to come around. Bubba put the camera down in the water and took pics of the fish that were right there by our legs. Its funny when you see this cause you'd think that the dolphins would eat them but they don't bother them at all.
We each got to interact with the dolphins by doing hand signals. We did the "kissing" where you signal the dolphin to come to you and while you are cupping the underside of their chin, you turn your head so it looks like they kissed your cheek and you turn back and kiss them on their nose. :3 Then the other was extending your arms out and they come up half way out of the water and you grasp their fins as if holding or shaking hands. Once everyone did that, the next part was swimming with them. I got to go first *lol* I had to swim out a bit from where we were standing and then wait to give the hand signal. They come up to you pretty damn fast so you have to be quick on grabbing their fins and hang on for dear life (aka. keep your head above water). Actually, you get to ride on their belly and they swim so fast too, its an awesome experience. Its also weird on how they feel when you get to touch it, so smooth yet it almost feels kinda slimy even though its not.
After we did all of that and were walking back to the hut to drop our stuff off, we were told that in the other dolphin side, they had one or two of them pregnant and that there was a baby somewhere in the water with them but we didn't get to see them.
Once we bought a few things, it was already 4:30 if not a tad later and had to bust our butt on getting a taxi and heading back to the boat since the boat was leaving at 6. So we get back to the shopping area and what pissed me off was that we were so strapped for time, we weren't able to check all the shops so we only managed to get a postcard or two.
I could've TOTALLY done without going to Yucatan or Belize, I wanted to stay at least a full day and night in Cozumel, so much to see and do and you aren't even given much time. >____< Bastards. We really didn't have to waste 2 fucking days out on the water on the way back home, we could've used one of those days to stay longer in Cozumel.
So that'd be the run down on the two things we did in Cozumel.
Here are the pics, mostly from the Dolphin Experience so I hope you enjoy looking at them.
