To quote my mom: "The most scariest movie to this day, for me, will always be the Exorcist."
And no truer words have been spoken.
From what I can recall, the last time I seen the Exorcist was when I was pretty young. I don't remember seeing it since then. This weekend it was on one of the movie channels so I thought why not watch it.
Wow, that movie is pretty fucking creepy and funny considering the yr that movie was made, the vulgar language used in it made me laugh.
Ya know, for allll the horror movies out there, I think this is one of the better ones ever released. When I think back on all the Fri. 13th's, Freddy's, and any other kind of horror flicks new and old, just doesn't amount to what the Exorcist was. Also for the yr the movie was made, the thing that usually goes through my mind are cheesy B rated flicks but this one here is nowhere near it. And this movie fucks with your head cause they'll show quick images of a demon or really creepy things that you have to watch for carefully or you'll miss it.
The only thing that bothered me was they jumped around alot in scenes. They go from one thing to the next with no explanation behind it and I felt those parts that weren't shown would've or could've been important pieces. For ex. before she was possessed, she overheard her mom talking on the phone trying to reach her dad in regards to her bday and her mom throwing a fucking hissy cause her dead beat father couldn't be reached. The next thing you know, she's at the doc's office getting a check up and BAM! she's showing signs of possession. No reason behind WHY she was a target. I'm thinking maybe cause she dabbled with the Ouija board and had a imaginary person (not a friend, since it seemed like she never mentioned him before) named Capt. Howdy perhaps speaking in her ear. Could Capt. Howdy been the devil all this time but waited for the right time to take over her body or what? But when the psychiatrist hypnotized her and she brought up Howdy, she said it wasn't him that was in her. I don't know, the whole thing confuzzled me.
I'd rather play it safe so I got spoilers under the cut.
Sooooooooo many gross scenes!!!!! The thing that made me cringe the most was when she took the crucifix and kept stabbing at her vagina and just blood everywhere. That was enough to make my crotch ache.
ETA: Oooookay, after reading up on the quotes and what not, I found out she wasn't stabbing herself but masturbating with the crucifix. It still looked like she was stabbing herself to me, not the kind of motion you'd see while masturbating.
The disgusting disfiguring of her face and that wheezing noise everytime she breathed. And the voice of the demon was grating to my ears everytime it spoke.
I knew that the older priest died during the exorcism but I had no clue that the other priest died too at the end. I thought he lived through it all so imagine my shock when I saw that he was killed too.
It's funny when mom brings it up about that movie cause I believe she said she saw it when it first came out and that was in '73 and she was 21. To her, the sickest part was the puking scene. What's also weird is that last Oct, they did a poll on the local radio station about what was the scariest horror movie and the Exorcist was the #1 choice. I think the Exorcist is 10x's better than The Omen.
And while I'm thinking about old horror movies, has anyone on my flist seen The Car? Now THAT was a movie I remember watching when I was really little and the last time I saw that movie till a couple yrs ago they were showing it on one of the channels during the month of Oct. Watching it now that I'm older, it is kinda creepy but very cheesy. Though the car and the noise it made was eerie. I can still remember how it ends.
Speaking of possessed cars, I always liked Christine too, thought that was a pretty creepy movie, especially the guy who played Arnie. There's a guy who makes you wonder what became of him. The last movie I recall him in was Back to School (w/ Rodney Dangerfield). He ranks up there with the kid that played Mitch in Real Genius. Whatever became of that nerd? Well after looking it up, check him out now compared to what he looked like in Real Genius (which isn't the best pic but its all I could find from the movie).

Had to work at B&BW Sunday night. Our job this time was moving EVERYTHING off the wall shelves (pretty much rearranging the areas). Talk about a pain in the ass!!!! The one girl told me they do this twice a yr. Two ppl didn't show up and believe me, not having those 2 ppl there really slowed us down since the majority of us were paired with an extra person. So of course, my partner never showed and just about all of us got stuck with 3 areas to work on. I was able to get two of my areas done and another group of ppl did my 3rd shelf since there was no way in hell I'd have it done before it was time for us to finish up. If I had to choose between floorsets, re-ticketing, or the shelves, I would totally pick the floorsets.

Oh, and you know, I always thought the kid from Back to School had been the same one that played Arnie in Christine, but never did verify that. Thanks! And yeah, wonder what ever did become of him?
I should probably watch The Exorcist again. It's been a while for that one, too. And I would say that there is definitely a sort of cult following to the Freddy movies. Yeah, they were cheesey in the beginning, but if you could actually get involved enough in the plot, they got a lot better as they went on. I especially liked the one where all the souls were contained in the one body, and by killing Freddy that time (If I'm remembering all this right, lol), all the souls were released to finally rise up.
Heh. I love the movies from the 80s era. I think you and I talked about this a lot, but you saw Kingdom Hospital, right? You were the other Andrew McCarthy nut on my flist? I have to find that for download somewhere and watch it again. That fits right on up there with this stuff already mentioned as far as suspense and cheese factor, but I thought it was great! :)

From what I read about the Arnie dude, he gave up acting and started to direct stuff.
Now the early Freddy movies I didn't mind at all, I think those were the better ones compared to the newer stuff that made you roll your eyes at. For some reason, the Fri. 13th movie that always stuck in my mind and liked probably the most out of all of them was #6.
My older sis was the horror movie buff in my family so I had to sit through all the cheese that is IF my parents let me. Since I was still pretty young when the majority of all those horror movies came out, it would give me nightmares hence why I wasn't allowed to watch too many. And if I did, it was guaranteed for my parents to find me either squeezing between them in bed, laying at the foot end of the bed, or lay next to mom.
Another movie I would like to see again that seems like AGES since I seen it, Silent Night Deadly Night (part 1 that is). After looking at that link, I can't BELIEVE all the parts they made to that movie. I think I only watched up to part 2. Reading part 3 makes me roll my eyes, and the rest had nothing to do with the original at all.
you saw Kingdom Hospital, right? You were the other Andrew McCarthy nut on my flist?
Yeah, I watched a few eps of it but never watched anymore after that. Too weird for my brain to handle.

The movie that scared me the most (and I saw it in that same theater) was called The Incredible Melting Man. God, that was a C-rate movie at best but it scared the crap outta me. After seeing it I had to spend the night alone in my dorm room and I kept the lights on all night. For like a year after that I always made sure I had a clear view of the bathroom while taking a shower. I don't think there was a scary shower scene in the movie, but the monster kept popping up when least expected, so you know, you can never be too careful. ^_^ (I saw that the movie was coming on t.v. about a year ago so I made my kids watch it with me. They got bored after about 15 minutes and left. The movie was soooo bad I kept wondering how it had ever scared me in the first place.)

Hmmmm...I might have heard of the Melting Man but I never seen it. Was it that bad, scary wise? Do you recall what it was about?

Didn't he though? I mentioned him and that movie cause it was on tv Sunday and I was always curious what he was doing now and what he looked like every time that movie came on. I'm sure he might have had some mouth/teeth work done and his nose doesn't look as bad as it did when he was younger. Probably grew out better when he got older but he still has the shnoze.
Val Kilmer was hot in his younger days but now that he's getting older, he doesn't quite hold up too well but hey, it could be worse. The movie that made me a Val groupie was when Willow first came out. OMGAH! Madmartigan was just so hot, I was only 11 when that movie was released and already all I could think about doing was very naughty things to that man. Plus I had to have anything and everything that had his character on it. To this day, I still have my figures I bought at Toys R Us and some free posters I got from Kraft after sending in p of p.
