I would've had this posted yesterday but I had too much housework to finish up. Beneath the cut is a rundown of what we did as well as some pics.

Sat. - All in all it was a pretty good trip. The weather, thank god, was decent around the 60’s and not overly cold at night either. It was weird feeling sweat down my back, near the end of Nov in Chicago at that! Our flight there was quick though the thing that sucked was that we couldn’t check in till 3pm and we got to the hotel at 10am (but we were able to check in at 12:30). At least it gave me time to discuss with [livejournal.com profile] scarbie on what the plan was for Sat night. Bubba and I ate lunch at a place called Potbelly’s down the street from the hotel. It’s a sandwich shop in which I like to describe it as a Quizno’s but much cheaper in $ though still good sandwiches, plus it was a cute little shop for the way the inside was designed.

Later we met [livejournal.com profile] scarbie and her sister at the theatre where the Blue Man Group show was. It’s always an awesome feeling meeting someone for the first time when it feels like you known that person for a long time or when you both fangirl over things so hard, you can finally do so in person.

The Blue Man Group show is so worth seeing. Between their antics to the music, they put on a great show. Afterward, [livejournal.com profile] scarbie told us about a pizza place down the street called Giordano’s. Never had a Chicago style pizza till then, *guh* soooo good sooo filling. I pitied poor bubba cause he had a bad cold since the beginning of last week so he was kinda miserable during this trip. He couldn’t even taste the pizza so he missed out on how good it was.

Sunday – Bubba and I went to the Navy Pier and took an hr. boat cruise that was about the architectural structures of downtown Chicago. They had other boat tours going on that weren’t as long but I’m sure they were just as worth it as the one we went on. The tour guide even pointed out where the site of the Great Chicago fire used to be though from our viewpoint, you couldn’t see much except for a building it was built upon. Once the tour was over, we went back to the pier to check the rest of it out. Such a great place to visit, I wanted to go back on either Monday or look elsewhere to park on Sunday so we could’ve stayed longer. Inside the building on the pier, it was like a small mall. Had restaurants inside as well as some shops. The upper part was like a greenhouse of sorts with all the trees, flowers, water fountains, and other greenery. Bubba took pics of it that are in the photo album link. They also had a spot for Santa Claus and this time, there was a Mrs. Claus sitting next him. I think my fav. part inside the pier was the Stained Glass museum. Such beautiful, beautiful works of art, it blows my mind. I wished bubba would’ve taken some pics but he kept walking ahead of me since I was taking my time on admiring the pieces. Plus with our parking soon expiring, we had to haul ass on walking back to the parking garage so we didn’t get to see the whole museum. Hell, I didn’t think the museum was that long of a stretch till we had to find an exit door.

Later, we went to eat at a place called the Firehouse Grill. They took a very old firehouse and converted it into a bar&grill. Pretty neat and the first time we passed it on the way to the hotel, I had a feeling bubba would’ve had a shit fit over seeing it.

Monday – Since bubba had to work (as well as the two other guys he works with that flew in that morning), I planned that day to hang out with scarbie, ALL DAY! She met me at the place bubba was working at and we headed towards downtown. It felt weird to take the train, at least in a city like that. We first went to the Harold Washington Library then tried to find our way to Daley Plaza. For the most part, we hoofed it around the city, which I’m surprised the only thing that hurt on me were my feet and not my legs considering how much walking we did. It was just an interesting experience overall. Daley Plaza was really neat. The X-mas tree was HUGE and they had a fenced area where they had two model trains running. The booths had a lot of German stuff between the food to crafts. After that, we headed to the Art Institute of Chicago. The woodblock art prints they had in the Japanese section was stunning. And of course the Egyptian and Roman artifacts was my main thing of wanting to see. We then took the train to Chinatown to eat dinner, plus I never been to a Chinatown before. Stopped at a store that had some anime posters on the window but they didn't have much inside except for alot of Inuyasha and Naruto. We called it a night when we took the train to the hotel and said my good-bye's to [livejournal.com profile] scarbie since I knew I wouldn't have time on Tues. to hang out with her again.

Tues. - The guys finished up on what they didn't accomplish all day Monday in regards to Bubba's work. I caught up on some anime on the laptop but not any writing since it was too distracting. Ate lunch across the street at a place called Finkle's that had pretty good food. We left the area around 3:30 to head to Midway Airport just so we could turn the rental car in and be there early enough just in case the security line was long. Thankfully this airport wasn't as bad as how Dallas was when we went to come to Chicago. The flight home was pretty good and since it wasn't a full flight, we could sit wherever we wanted.

Had a really nice time and another heartfelt thank you to [livejournal.com profile] scarbie for everything while we were there. I'll cross everything on my body that you are able to make it to Otakon next yr.

Saving the best for last, the not so good things in Chicago:

  • parking is TOO GOD DAMN EXPENSIVE!!! I guess that's our punishment for not taking the train the whole time or riding a bike. It's one of the reasons we couldn't stay at Navy Pier for very long cause they charged so much for so many hrs. And we were there for 4 hrs so it goes to show you how much time flew.

  • you just don't know how much I wanted to rip out ppl's horn's on their cars. Christ, that's all I heard were ppl honking.

  • I thought ppl in Dallas drove like maniacs, Chicago is worse.

  • Very, very poor service when it came to eating. Now Potbelly's and Giordano's had decent service but the Firehouse Grill, the place in Chinatown, and Finkle's SUCKED!

  • With Bubba having a bad cold, I had to suffer staying in a hotel room that felt like a sauna cause he had to keep jacking up the heat. I'm surprised I could even sleep.

  • Certain things in the hotel sucked too.

  • Gas prices is close enough to where you might have to sell a body part just to afford it. Boy, am I glad to live in TX.

And to end it, here is the link to the pics mostly of Navy Pier. I'll have bubba upload the boat tour pics on his album.

Also, no pics of RenRuki plushies cause the time when I did bring them along, our digital camera is about ready to kick the bucket and it wasn't working right for us at least half of the trip. Plus Scarbie took pics of Daley Plaza so once she download's her pics, I'll work on posting them later.

Hey Beck! I'm so glad that you enjoyed yourself while in Chicago. I had a great time hanging out with you!! I hope that we can meet again at Otakon. And like I said in my latest entry, if not there, TEXAS!

Whenever you're in Chicago next we HAVE to get you some Garrett's popcorn. *marks #1 on to-do-list*

    *hugs*

I think the best time for you to come to TX is whenever Type O Negative starts touring again. That way you can come and experience their show with me and not by yourself.

What does Garrett's popcorn taste like?

OH! And before I forget, I'm going to send you my GTO fic that way you can tell me what needs fixed or added. I feel that I might be able to finish this for a X-mas gift for a friend once I get a different person's opinion (yours) aside from the one I had awhile back that didn't help me much at all.

    *big hugs*
