scarbie. I got your text right when I left work and had to giggle over it. I hope you do some sort of rundown of the show, especially since this was your first to see them.

Apparently LJ ate my NIN post from yesterday cause it's not showing up on my journal. So, I'll try and re-do this again, thankfully I had the first few parts saved when I first typed it up, just not the complete entry. At least with this error, gave me the chance to listen to the album for the 3rd time and my answer is.......the album is very mediocre.
TRENT...TRENT...TRENT! W...W...WTF IS THIS??!!!! I was happy for you when you wanted to make up for lost time on not releasing anything in over 5-6 yrs but what is going on in that head of yours? If I had to choose, I'd say "With Teeth" sounds better than "Year Zero" and that's saying alot since "With Teeth" wasn't cracked up what I thought it would be. My sis wishes for you to go back to your older style and doesn't even wish to hear the new stuff after telling her what it sounded like and her opinion mirrors ours as well on "With Teeth". Bubba told me on Sat and I had to agree, that we won't be wasting our money on "Year Zero", hell, I'm thinking about deleting the file that's on my computer cause I don't want to hear it anymore.
Bubba brought up a good point. If the new one sounds as bad as it does, how is it going to sound live? To see them in concert for this album seems very unlikely even though they are awesome to see live. What seemed to annoy me with the majority of the songs is that it had almost the same background beat. And if anything, there is probably only 4 songs that is tolerable to my ears. In fact, the first few songs that were released on the website were probably the better ones. I like "survivalism" cause it reminds me of the old sound. While I do happen to like "Capital G", that song is SOOOO NOT NIN's style. Bubba hates it. I don't know if Trent is experimenting to see how different ways sound or what but I think he just needs to stick to what he knows best and that is the hard, rough edge that NIN was really about. I'm sure since he's sober, he doesn't want to dwell on things in the past that made the band what it was.
Though I'm curious what the majority of the die hard NIN fans will think of this. I think it's going to be split down the middle on the feelings of this.
So please Trent, if you ever think about releasing another album before the end of this yr, please go back to your old ways. I don't know if having turned 40 did something to your brain or what, but we'd like to have the music we fell in love with in the '90's.

I just want Downward Spiral forever and ever...I don't want Political Trent...All musicians should be allowed to freely partake of their drug of choice, that's the only way good music gets made.....

I am curious how long he plans to keep his head shaved. But your life can not be complete till you do see them live. Maybe if he comes out with a much better album and decides to grow his hair out. *lol*

I couldn't have said that any better myself! You surely hit the nail on the head with that. *nodsnods* So many bands seemed to have gone down the shitter with their sound once one or the whole band starts to sober up. And Trent is a shining example. The only one who did change his habit and STILL sounds fucking awesome is Type O Negative. Peter (Mr.Manmeat) had a coke problem and apparently was taking care of the problem during 4yr break they were on before they released this new one.

Good political bands start and end, I think, with A Perfect Circle and System of a Down, and I guess Rage Against the Machine, since if they weren't political they wouldn't be singing (I don't know that that wouldn't be a bad thing)...I still don't want Trent to do it. Trent is supposed to look at the situation--any situation--and say "fuck it, i'm hurting. fuck the world." Then he should cut himself with little razorblades and try to cry but fail because he's just too god-damned sad. This...this "With Teeth" crap...this is not NIN. "The bass goes boom"?! Should we send him a bottle of absinthe? Should we send him a copy of "The Fragile" and make him listen to it?
And do you think this got started off because of New Orleans? Did he have any damage to his NO house?
