Two yrs ago when I went home for vacation, my older sis rec'ed me another author to try out. Well, actually she told me on the phone way before that but she mentioned it again since she had a good bit of his books on her bookshelf for me to check out to read. The guy's name is Bentley Little. He too writes horror stories. In some freakish way, I think he's a little more demented, rawer than some of King's stuff. And still kind of sci-fi'ish too as King. Even what bit of sex scenes are in Little's books are a little more graphic than what King writes but since it's not the focal point of the story, I think what little is written seems to get it's message across *lol*. I read a book of Little's that had short stories (The Collection) in it while visiting home. And I didn't think about picking up another book by him till I had to go to my ear doc. appt last Tues and took the book mom sent me along to read (The Vanishing). I don't think I ever read a book that fast (not even when I was reading SK's "Cell") and it was 386 pages (I finished it last Fri). It kept me engrossed and didn't seem to drag along like some others on just trying to get to the point. It actually built up the scene on the showing and telling of different characters. BUT I would've liked to have seen what became of Marshall.

The story that sticks out in my mind the most from "The Collections" is the Washingtonians (I believe part of the wiki article is wrong, I could've swore the patriots had wooden teeth, not ivory, me can't remember). It actually was made into a LA eps on Masters of Horror. Seeing it acted out was pretty damn cheesy and was quite disappointed on how they handled it. I'd prefer the orig. version.

Either way, I too would recommend Bentley's stuff if anyone is looking for something fresh to read.
