After the class on Tues, I realized how whatever idiot at work, is spelling my name on a few forms and such. My paper nametag on the monitor was Becky Anne Smith. HELLO asshole! My name is not Becky Anne! Its just Becky! Anne is my middle name *gets ready to throw something*. I also noticed they have my full name on my paystub, I might have to ask the ppl I work with in my area if they do that to them too. If not, then I understand if there is another Becky Smith working in another state for the same company hence why using my middle name but that does not mean you use my middle name in EVERYTHING! So later after the one small break during the class, I took my pen and scribbled out Anne, seeing my full name spelled out like that made me feel so hickish while everyone else had their normal names spelled out. The only time ANYONE should use my full name is when I would get yelled at by mom or both parents, then sometimes they would call me Rebecca Anne but Rebecca IS NOT my name, seriously, I was born with Becky. There, I had to get that off my chest cause when ppl do or say my name wrong, it really irritates me. Now I know how Ali feels when ppl say his name wrong or spell it wrong.

This is in regards of Windows XP and who ever is in charge (or should I say morons)of the computer systems here at work.

After Tues. class, they told us that within 48hrs they were going to work on changing all the PC's to XP. I was glad that I remembered to back up some things I had saved on the compy I use or transfer a few things to my drive that they have set up for us at work. When I got in tonight and signed in, I made sure to have it setup on the original version instead of XP. but the thing I hate about the one here at work is that their taskbar is so huge and takes up alot of space and there hasn't been a way for me to fix that.

THEN! THEN during that class, they told us that we would no longer be able to download anything to the C drive, if you needed a program installed, you were to bring in a copy for them, they would make a special copy to give back to you that you could download to your system (or I think they would've done it for you). So tonight I thought I'd give it a try, they weren't lying. Not only do they have the Real Player website blocked, but when I tried to download DivX in order to have some SORT of way to watch my anime at work, certain files couldn't be downloaded since they most likely had to be on the C drive. But it did install all that was needed to cause I tried it out and it does play my anime discs. I might have to see if I can't burn a copy of Real Player setup at home and try to download it at work.

So knowing this, I had to clean out my personal drive at work that I store some fics, fanart pics, amvids and such onto a floppy so that way I had more open space to download certain programs into that drive. They give us 250 megs in that drive so it should be awhile before I ever fill that.

Then I took a look at the PC itself with appearance and it just infurated me even more. The whole company had received brand new Dell's a few months ago so why the hell they couldn't just upgrade the new ones to XP is beyond me. So they took out the brand new ones in exchange for another Dell PC system that already had XP on it. These are USED and abused PC's. For our print area, we seem to get shit on alot yet its US that they have to rely on in order to get alot of these forms out. There are scratches on the front part of the PC, the door in the front that has the headphone jack is so hard to open, the cd rom drive button is fucked up to where its almost pushed the whole way in and all you have to do is lightly touch it for it to open. I pushed in the front piece around the button to see if it makes it pop out more and it does but doesn't help much. I'm just afraid that within time, I won't be able to open it up anymore. The floppy drive did give me a bit of a problem but not as much as the cd rom.

I checked out in the distro area and where my super's desk is and their PC's look just fine and dandy *GRRRRRRR!!!!* If they didn't have a damn code number on these, I would've traded them out.

Then I went to open my Outlook Express that the company uses for our email and it took FOREVER to open up. I tried it again later and was still pretty slow -___-. As you can see, my patience was wearing out pretty thin tonight. And something else that doesn't make sense. With new PC that we had, the system ran alot smoother and quicker, now with this piece of shit, it seems to run programs alot slower and I don't know why, the other PC is on the same network as this one.

Its bad enough when they are getting pretty ridiculious on blocking certain sites and treating certain areas around here with shitty PC's, I give them about another yr before they have it to where you can do NOTHING with your PC except for company email and thats it. They blocked ALL or just about ALL internet radio stations which out of all things, what the fuck gives???!!!!!!!!!!!!! Porn related sites and such things like that I can understand but get fucking real or a clue assholes! I'm sure I'm not the only one around this company that has a reg. internet email account OR listen to music on the computers!!!

The 2nd shift dude told me last night as we were changing shifts that some computer dude might come in before I leave to do something with the PC. I REALLY REALLY hope he does cause I'm in the mood to relieve a full blown BITCH rant to him, not that he would care or anything but still. And its not good either that I'm feeling so pissed since I get really moody a week before pms'ing and during. So if this guy doesn't come in before I leave, then I'll just bitch about it to my super tonight, not that he would care either but fuck it, FUCK THEM I say!

*pantspantspants*

Damn it! Where's my Limp Bizkit cd when I need something to go with my pissy mood! I was gonna add more bitching about other things while I'm in the mood and on my mind but I might do that later.

*tries to take a deep, calming breath*

*patpatpat* wonderous corporate life.

we haven't had access to our webbased email in months. they said that users kept downloading viruses. bull. shit.

our spam volume on our company email has shot up dramatically since they blocked it.

so many cutbacks that directly impact our abilites to do our jobs, then they take away any chance we might have at stress release...do they expect their employees to be automotons? I thought we got away from that sort of detremental thinking.

I'm waiting for our company to block access to livejournal. then several of us online are in jeopardy.

*patpatpat* I feel your pain.

Why of course silly, we are all supposed to be automotons. I agree about the stress release part. There are few sites that I go to know a days that I check out to chill out but the ones that I do, only time will tell when they will block those. And then they wonder why their employees go postal on them. They need to do a double take at a few things and think about their employees more than themselves. Its WE that make the company thrive, not the.

I'm waiting for our company to block access to livejournal. then several of us online are in jeopardy.

That would SOOOOO suck major ass! But I know what ya mean. Every night when I come to work and click onto the lj link, I'm always holding my breath to see if its still active. Last yr, sometime around the summer or so, they blocked yahoogroups which severly pissed me off. They had it down for around 3 mos or so but yet I could still check my yahoo email. One night I checked up on it and they finally brought it back online and then not long after disabled ALL webased interent email accounts. So because of that, if I need to catch up on some email that I don't have time to do at home, I have to forward it to my work email just so I can work on a few things.

Understanding....

I know exactly how you feel. I work for a school district and they block so much junk that doesn't need to be.... I mean, we were working on inventions with kids and have the websites were blocked because they might have games. Gimme a break....

And we've been locked out of yahoogroups for forever because it has a CHAT feature. Like kids even know a lot about yahoogroups anyway!! And NONE of them get free time on computers in general anyway. Most librarians control the labs and you had better darn well be doing work on the thing!

I'm waiting for them to cut off Livejournal myself - then I will have a hissy fit! I mean, come on! Before and after school hours and at lunch, I should have the right (as an adult) to do as I please with my equipment.

And what irks me more, is now I can't even set the background of my computer because it's all district forced. I jsut wanted a simple picture of my son, but noooooo. *growl*

Hell, my husband is a sys admin at his job and he can search for things to buy and watch ebay at work and the president of the bank can research travel spots for vacation then I should darn well be allowed to use the internet how I choose as well!

Hopefully you get to rant at someone since I totally agree with you!

Oh geez louise! Dumb shit like that is enough to make you want to hunt down whoever it is that blocks the stuff on the servers. I know I feel that way everytime I go to a certain site and its blocked. Yet the ones that need to be blocked aren't. I would think that schools would be more strict on the blockage then what reg. work places would be.

And we've been locked out of yahoogroups for forever because it has a CHAT feature.

I sometimes wonder if thats why they did that here too. They blocked YG last summer for a few months which pissed me off but yet I still had access to my yahoo email account. Then later I kept checking up on it and was surprised that they had it back up, only not long after they disabled all internet webased email accounts that aren't work related. Now when it comes to chat, before we had the new Dells, I could chat on my reg computer with AIM. I just couldn't download MSN or Yahoo which was odd. Then when we got the new systems, you could download the AIM file but when it came to setting it up, a window would come up saying that you had to have the admin something or other to get it to go through. Which is why I'm glad we have another computer on the side that isn't really the same set up as the one I normally use. This is the company based computer, the other compy I use to chat on is by IBM and aren't on the same system hence why I could download AIM with no probs. Now that with these other PC's we just got in, I'm going to have to make me a copy of the Real Player file and AIM and see if I can't set them up on this since they have a block on both sites (well the download for the AIM section anyways) I'm hoping that it all works come monday night.

I'm waiting for them to cut off Livejournal myself - then I will have a hissy fit! I mean, come on! Before and after school hours and at lunch, I should have the right (as an adult) to do as I please with my equipment.

You and I and I'm sure many others that do this at work feel the same way. It use to be that YG was my outlet but since alot of the ML's have been quiet, lj is what keeps me going when I'm really bored. I would totally have a fucking fit if that ever happens, hell I'm surprised that they haven't from the beginning.

And what irks me more, is now I can't even set the background of my computer because it's all district forced.

OMG! That is so retarded! I'm glad that they give us that freedom to customize what we want on our computers. If not, then it would be boring to sit and look at the same dumb pic all the time. I'm glad that I don't share my sign on section with anyone else in my area, we each have our own sign on and make up. When they had the XP installed, that night I called hubby and asked him how to change it back to the original style. Then I always use some sort of anime for my wallpaper which I'm sure would question anyone as to what is that if they ever saw my screen. ^__^

Hell, my husband is a sys admin at his job and he can search for things to buy and watch ebay at work and the president of the bank can research travel spots for vacation then I should darn well be allowed to use the internet how I choose as well!

Well that too I'm really shocked (knock on wood) that they allow us to do that too. Especially for ebay. I check it out from time to time and sometimes thats how I win my late night auctions *snickers* Its been up and going since I've been working here for 3 yrs now. I just don't understand why they put a block on those internet radio stations for. Its not like listening to music is a crime since how this building is set up, you can't get certain radio stations on the radio.

I wasn't able to rant at any of the head computer geeks about it but I've voiced my complaint to the ppl I work with who agree with me too.

You company's computer guy is an idiot. It doesn't take much to upgrade anyone's newer computer to XP. (by the by to make the taskbar smaller in XP Click START-->Control Panel-->Appearances and Themes-->Taskbar and Start Menu. Click the Start Menu Tab. Click the Customize button by Start Menu. Under General select Small Icons. Click OK and Click OK again. (Or the faster way ... yes there is one is, click on the Start button when the pop up of the lists, etc appears do a right-click of the mouse and select properties. Then click Start Menu tab ... Customize ... Small icons).

I've never left fics on my hard drive. I have all that on a zip disk that I use instead. And if I download an avi or mpg file from work, I quickly burn it on a cd then delete it from my hard drive.

Thankfully no one has blocked websites around here and I hope they never do. :)

Pretty much for them its called Pure Laziness! As for the taskbar, I tried but they don't give us much of a choice to fix that, I think that have it done like that on purpose cause I guess they think that the first layer is going to be full of icons which it isn't. I even tried unlocking the taskbar so I can adjust it but even that doesn't help. With this taskbar being the way it is, it makes the webpages so scrunched up.

Your lucky, you have a cdburner at work. We don't dare have those on the pcs here. But god how I wished they did, I'd be burning cd fool! And your really REALLY lucky that they don't have any blocks at your work. Hubby's work has blocks too and he works in the main office building for Greyhound.
